How long does the heated seats take to heat up?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I always thought my heated seats heated up really slowly. By the time it finally heats up, I am no longer in the freezing cold state I was in.

I havn't really timed it but I would say it takes a good 4-5 minutes till I feel them heat up (I crank it to 6)

I was wondering if this was a problem or its normal. My friends 5series heats up on level 2 almost instantly, and so does my aunt's forester.

Any inputs on this? If its a problem I can maybe have audi look at it and maybe fix it when i go fix my trunk problem

4-5 minutes to reach full power seems about right

It seems to vary by model and seat type, e.g. a non-sport seat Q5 seems to heat up almost immediately whereas a sport seat A5 takes awhile.

No homo, but your ass must be hot to begin with. I can't stand mine being on any higher than 4 (almost burns), and usually drive with it only on 2 or 3. Maybe they toned it down in the B8's, but both my B5 and B6 were blazing, and usually heated up within a few minutes.

In my sport seated A5 the '3' setting is barely noticeable whereas 5-6 are quickly too hot. '4' is the sweet spot for me.

I thought I was the only one who thought the seats took a long time to heat-up and were not that strong at its max setting. I have sport seats and they take about 4-5min. I leave them at max setting in Texas winter so I can't imagine these are adequate in a colder environment. My X5 heats up quicker and is way stronger in it's heat. Maybe my butt is desensitized from the X5 as I have had it longer.

I have an 09 with regular seats. Takes probably 2 min to start feeling the heat and another 2-3 min to fully warm up. I'm with Calbee though...I think the seats are a little weak...I never really use any setting lower than 5.

I seem to remember a thread similar to this in the recent past and the consensus was that the '09's must have stronger heaters in the seats (sport or otherwise). Almost everyone with '09's was commenting that they couldn't go past ~4 because 5-6 was pretty extreme and everyone with MY10+ was complaining that the max wasn't strong enough. My '09 with sport seats is very quick to heat and 6 is almost unbearable.

Mine take a while to heat up, but I find them more annoying than useful so I never even turn them on. Cranking up the heat to "HI" and the fan to 12 does the trick for me :)

THIS. Cory's, right. The MY10+ seem to have weaker seats. On my B6 S4, I can't even turn them past 3 or 4, or I die. With the B8, it's not so bad on 4,5, or 6. My wife always has it on 6, and wonders sometimes if it's even on. I do think (and said this in the previous thread) that it's quite possible these are in some sort of connection with the HVAC system - if the system is on high (say, 72 degrees or higher), the seats put out more heat. If it's lower, they put out less heat. Just a thought. My Honda Pilot SUV was that way.

My 2011 has pretty weak seat heating too. I have the prestige and sports package. Level 6 is just barely warm to me.
