Lol start the car, drive like a normal human being, let the oil get past the 150 degree mark(or first notch) and then you can start driving a little harder. I still drive my car like a grampa but its got 103k, been chipped for about 50 and still on the original HEALTHY K03's...

Or for those of us that use the car daily in rush hour, you really can't go that fast anyway. I save my gas on the week days to use on Autocrosses in the future.

I often see people discuss the importance of warming up your car before driving and definitely before boosting.

For those of you who have ever had a GERMAN Driver's license you would know that GERMANY is extremely environmentally friendly and that it is Illegal to leave your car idling/Warming up for any period of time.

    So here is my issue,

If Germans are driving 300k on one timing belt and going 15k miles in between services
And we(AMERICANS) are only getting maybe 100k with a timing belt and servicing every 5k miles then
Why would we focus on something as little as letting your car warm up?
When it is more likely our stop and go traffic and immature driving habits.(I.E.)--Boosting around town all day in between stop lights at 5k RPM and then wondering why your car leaks oil out of the valve cover after 3 months.(you know who you are)
REMEMBER--The car isn't always a piece of S%^& when it breaks down...it could be you and the fact you SUCK at driving.

    JUST A THOUGHT.

i rarely go into boost maybe once or twice a WEEK. and i dd my car. i just never have the occassion where i need to jump on it. i woud imagine 6k revs between stop lights would be unhealthy for any car

I see that most of you guys are from the states but here in Canada where I live when it is -35c (-31F) outside, you would be an idiot if you didn't let your car warm up for at least 5 minutes before driving it...but on regular days then yes I agree.

If there is one thing I have learned while working for Audi over the years is that your car that you baby will not last any longer than my car that gets driven hard, every day. I pulled my ko3s out with 100k+ on the clock and it was driven hard. Turbos were in good condition when I removed them for RS6 turbos. The key to longevity in an S4...good oil and don't let your timing belt break. Your 90% there. The other 10% is doing valve cover gaskets properly, cv boots and a few suspension bushings. My car has 155k on it now and you would never know it if you didn't see the mileage yourself. I feel like most of peoples breakdowns, short of a fuel pump that kicks the bucket, has more to do with the lack of maintaining the car, than driving it hard.

    Absolute nonsense spoken with conviction.

You can warmup the car by driving easy, you don't need to idle it. But... i dunno where you got any of the 'facts' that supported your conclusion(s). Impressive. You were ahead of the times.
