Question Rub strip Trim hole coverage

So I just removed the rub strips from the doors of my A4 Avant. I'm planning on wrapping my car in the near future so I would like to fill the holes left by the rubstrip tabs. I was originally planning on welding them from the inside and using body filler to fill the holes. But knowing how much of a project thats gunna be I was wondering if there was a sort of tape or material I could place over the trim holes instead of welding a piece of metal to the back so it would be something for the body filler to stick to so I don't have to pull apart my doors just to fill these holes?

If you tape up the holes from the OUTSIDE, and apply bondo over the tape, the bondo will sit proud of the surrounding surface. You wrap it this way, and it'll look like dog shit. The bondo will also be pretty thin, and will most likely crack and sink under the wrap.

I would do it the right way - weld little squares of sheet metal from the INSIDE, and this will give you a much better base to apply a thin skim of bondo, and sand it down to the surrounding surface level.

You could make a jig that allows bondo to pool on the inside of the door around the hole so it is less likely for it to crack/fall out.

Filled a tennis ball sized hole in my dad's old 86 grand prix with bondo using duct tape to hold it in the hole. Worked really well, and didn't crack when we sanded it down or when it was painted
