    Power limit of RS6 motor?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know normally the tranny is the limiting factor with modding RS6's, but now with some people doing 6-speed swaps in the RS6's, I was curious if there's a general consensus on how much power the stock internals can handle before upgrading?

IDK. But, if you have the money to do an 6MT swap and you are going to do a turbo upgrade...I think I'd go for broke. Literally.

Theres a few 700-800 hp rs6's on youtube but they are obviously built at that point. I think most chips and tuning on stock turbos and fuel, most are in the 500 range. Dont think to many people have pushed the rs6 to the limits in the usa being that they are rare and more of a collector.

I bet with upgraded IC's, meth and an aggressive tune with a full TBE/dp's you could hit 600hp. normal stage 1s are 500/520hp i think. so its prolly possible. Some good numbers have been made on ko3s with high psi on stock block, they just prolly wont last long haha.

Yeah, I'm not really curious what can be made with stock hardware, rather I'm more curious about the power limitations of the stock motor before failure. It would be sick to get a cheap high mileage one and go nutty ha.

If you really need to know that answer check rs6. Com. Many owners are qualified Audi mechanics. And gear heads. The cosworth motor is a bull. If u look at a thread I started here, I bought a wrecked rs6 for it's motor and driveline. The owner had a dahlback racing stage 3 kit installed with level 10 tranny. My swap will be done in 2 weeks, and the engine which previous owner drove for 2 years makes 700/800. He had no issues. As noted above, my current engine in my rs6 all internals, turbos are stock, with noted mods, I'm making 535/670, no issues, but I'm at 1 bar, for KO4's maxed out. Part of the DBR kit is GT30's.

I've heard, but have never seen proof, that cooling is the limiting factor on the RS6 motor. Not sure if it's engine cooling or IATs, but MTM cars have the awful looking cutouts on the hood as well as some special air deflectors on the belly pan.

Also heard that the 700HP limit is due to the stock intake manifold.

I'm just going off of memory here, so somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

If you care to experiment, I've got a spare RS6 motor that I can sell you. :)

The engine itself is good for 700-800hp the limiting factor being the rods.

Cool. Any aftermarket rods currently for the motor? They aren't by chance the same dimensions as the rods in the 1.8t and 2.7t, are they?

Yes they are out there. The rod dimensions are the same as a 2.7tt, however the V8 rod has the bearing tang on the opposite side.

IIRC, the 4.2 V8 motor from the RS6 is the same motor in the Gumpert Apollo (obviously with different states of tune and unsure of the turbo set up).

Also, those brits at MRC Tuning are doing crazy things like 2 fuel pumps, upgraded fuel rail, upgraded injectors, upgraded turbos, just to start.....
