He should have them, behind the solenoid housing, these are very thin washers.

Did that job myself this weekend. Not fun. Of course I only had axle stands to use and not a lift. Removing the axle heat shields gives you more room to work with. If I had to do it again I’d also remove the front axles. Only broke one stud and thankfully didn’t round off any of the nuts.

This is probably a dumb question that's already been answered, but is there any way to tell if this service has been performed? I'm tentatively shopping for a B7 S4 and there are a couple for sale where the seller says something like "the previous owner told me it's been done" or "my now-dead brother-in-law had the paperwork, but it's lost". Should I just avoid claimed-serviced-but-undocumented cars entirely, or can I easily verify somehow?

How is everyone installing the clutch slave cylinder onto the transmission during engine and trans install? Are you removing the hardline, attaching the slave to the trans, and then bleeding later? Or are you leaving it all together and somehow managing to get the slave bolt lined up?

Anybody had some tensioner issues after a chain job? Have a undefined sound like a tensioner or chain slap. Engine out again but nothing found yet.
Rotating by hand is quiet and nice.

    Edit:
Running nice at all cilinders and no codes.

I've seen a bad batch of upper head tensioners come through in the last 10 years. I've helped half a dozen or so diagnose the sound and isolated it to one of the tensioners on the heads.

Here it is, most sound coming from bank one and throttle body surroundings.

Except for the noise it running so smooth, no misfires at both exhausts, you think something wrong at the valves? Pistons?

At the end it was the tensioner bank 1, motor is in again and running smooth without the noises. Just test these suckers before mounting. Saves a lot of time.

Glad it's running good! Can add this to the list of bad brand new head tensioners I've seen through the years. The list is getting long.

I just had mine apart again recently even after doing timing around 100k. Inspected Cam phasers and they were within spec for wear at the time. However about 45k miles later they locked up. Had I known then what I know now I would've just replaced when I did timing job. JHM was the only one who made them at the time iirc. Thankfully I was able to replace them with the AMTuned phasers covers, new solenoids and upper chain rail guides. She's never run better.

    Did you replace in car?
Have about 8 cam adjusters and replacement solenoids, some adjusters new and some from amtuned, would replace them anytime with the distribution work.

Yeah, this was done in the car this time. Original Adjusters with new AMTuned solenoids/harness adapter & Phaser covers.

    Nice job sir!
I know it isn't easy to do with the covers and water pipe's. I've done bank 2 adjuster, solenoid and tensioner in car.
