    Extended Service Plan or Not?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My factory warranty is about to expire in April and I am debating on whether to purchase an extended service contract through the Audi dealer or just hope for the best in the next 2-3 years then upgrade hopefully to an S4.

I currently drive a 2007 2.0T MT s-line with 30k as of today on the odometer (4 yrs running out). Never had any warranty work performed and it's (knock on wood) been running great so far. Have installed some mods that will not be covered, PSS9's, 034 HFC, AWE DV, and APR 93 so not sure if the extended service plan is worth the cost.

My concerns are not as much mechanical but electrical issues. All routine maintenance has always been preformed on time and I am about to inspect and change the cam follower soon before the factory warranty expires.

Here is what the Extended Service Contract through the dealer quoted me according to my mileage and year. I know it would of been more cost effective if I just purchased it when I bought the car new but I really was not planning to hold on to it after the warranty expired.

Gold Plus Coverage- Bumper to Bumper excluding normal wear and tear items

    4yrs or 48,000 miles (48,000 + 30,000 = 78,000 miles) for $2665

    or

    3yrs or 36,000 miles (36,000 + 30,000 = 66,000 miles) for $2133

    Both have a $100 deductable

Is the cost justified or just a rip-off? So should I pull the trigger and get a the extended service plan of just roll the dice and hope any future repairs if any are minor?

I would do it... Even if you never use it, but if you do have an major issue, you sure will be glad you did. If you don't use it, think of it as another insurance bill.

Will they offer you interest free financing?

I am considering but really haven't read up on many major problems except for the cam follower which I am going to change soon anyways. Electrical problem are my real concern if they occur. Not too many problems seen on the forums concerning major electrical issues.

They do not offer any financing on it by the way

I bought one with my car and I was so glad I did. My cam follower crapped out at 40K which damaged the fuel pump, cam shaft and of course the follower. Also my engine mounts crapped out which were replaced under the extended warranty. So far the warranty company has paid over 3500 in repairs while i only paid 2100 for the extended plan. Glad i bought it and i still have over a year left on the plan and 12k miles. Worked out great for me.

edit: plan has a $100 deductible.

My motor mounts are bad too and when I took my car in for service last time, they tried to charge me like $900 for it. Are motor mounts covered under warranty? If so, I should get this done asap! Thanks in advance for any insights/advice!

I would assume that Audi should cover them under warranty. Motor mounts are pretty important.

That's what I thought. I will give them a call tomorrow to see if it's covered. I hope they don't give me shit about my mods because they told me my mounts were bad before I installed any mods....

That's what it is basically, peace of mind.

I never picked up the CPO that was offered to me as I neglected to get things done then the odometer rolled over 80,000 km. In two months it would have been two years since then and none of the items that could have been covered under warranty would have warranted the CPO.

In the end, they're in it to make money of course like anything else, so majority of the CPO customers won't maximize the warranty while a few will definitely will (especially those that gone through a HPFP after the cam worn through).
