What's wrong with my car? Please help!

Not sure what the problem with my car is, hopefully someone has experienced the same thing and might be able to tell me what the story is.

I was driving along the other day and suddenly my check engine light started flashing. Nothing was wrong with my car in terms of how it was driving either before or after the light started flashing. I drove for about half a mile before I stopped and turned the car off. Until I turned the car off, absolutely nothing was wrong aside from the light flashing. When I turned it back on, the check engine light immediately started flashing again. Now the car does not rev at all; when I hit the gas, the tachometer does not go up and the engine does not rev. When I put the ignition in accessory, the check engine light is already flashing. The car drives but will not accelerate when you hit the gas, it will simply move forward at the speed the car would go if you were to take your foot off the break and not hit the gas (the car is automatic). Going downhill the car will speed up and can eventually get into second gear but still does not accelerate. I took the car to a VW/Audi repair shop and they said there was a code that the car threw (they didn't tell me the code, I'll try to get it from them tomorrow). When they cleared the code, it did not come back. The car is not throwing any codes now but the check engine light is still flashing and the car will not accelerate at all. The shop could not find what the problem is. They worked on the car for almost 8 hours today and are completely stumped about what the problem is. They told me I should have it towed to a dealer and see if they can figure it out because they are at a loss for what the problem is.

Like I said, before I turned the car off it was running fine. It was accelerating fine and running perfectly. If not for the flashing check engine I would have had no idea that anything was wrong. The car made no sound (no pops or bangs etc), it was not misfiring (I've had 2 coil packs go bad so I know how that feels) and basically felt like everything was 100% fine. The problem with the accelerator only came up after I turned the car off and restarted it. The check engine light flashes without the car even starting, the key just needs to go into the accessory position and it will start. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be? The car has 70k with APR Stage 1 and AWE Exhaust. Help!

Do you have the APR anti-theft feature in your ECU?

This feature let you start the engine but renders the gas pedal inoperative and flash the CEL

I do have the anti-theft feature. According to APR's website, the anti-theft will prevent the car from cranking at all. I'll try going to the shop in the morning to see if I can enter my code if that is the problem, but how would the anti-theft have randomly triggered while I was driving? I had gone almost 15 miles before the check engine light started flashing.

On our B7 the APR anti-theft will let you start the engine.

I will go try it and report later

Sorry to hear. I would try and get a hold of that code and go from there.

Draman, I did some tests for you

    test #1

put the ECU in anti-theft mode.
When I turn the ignition on the CEL starts flashing.
Then I started the car and the engine is idling fine with the CEL still flashing and pressing the gas pedal produce nothing

    test #2

disable the anti-theft with my code
Start engine, no flashing CEL and the pedal is operating
enable the anti-theft (set, set, resume, resume, set, set, resume, resume) and the CEL start flashing. gas pedal is still operating
    stop the engine and restart
CEL is flashing and gas pedal in now inoperative.

I don't know why the APR anti-theft would have turned on by itself but these are the exact symptoms you are experiencing.
Were you doing crazy move with your flasher stalk when the CEL started flashing?

Go try your unlock code and let me know the results.
I'm 100% sure that this is your problem.

Wasn't doing anything with the cruise stalk when this whole deal happened, was driving in a straight line going probably 35 mph. I'm not sure how to enter the anti-theft, I would assume there are instructions in the booklet I got when I flashed the car, but that is in the glove box so not available to me now. I know how to enter my access code
