where to route boost gauge hose in a stickshift?

hey guys, I'm trying to install a vmr boost gauge but can't find out where to get the hose through the firewall. the instructions show a gromet behind the pedals that isn't there because my model is a stickshift. this moment I'm trying to go up through the ecu box but I'm afraid it will pinch the hose due to how tight of a fit looks like it's going to be. has anyone done this?

i went through my ecu and fed the tube out of the diaphragm that lets wires out of the ecu....that should work for you....


and yes the grommet is there i have a 6spd manual and it leads into the wheel well, your safer by going through the ecu imo

thanks a ton guys. I just got through the ecu and my next step is either to drill a hole in the ecu box and find out where to get through into the engine compartment or just go through with the other wires. if I do that, I'll have to cut a hole it that rubber tubing to get the hose out, i would also not know where to put the airfilter if I did it that way

Just cut a small slice into that rubber tubing feeding directly into the ECU. Remove the ECU cover, feed your Gauge hose through the rubber tubing, and drop directly into cabin behind the kick panel.

x10 for the ecu, my newsouth gauge told me to route through the grommet next to the ecu which is completely impossible. Taking the ecu cover off is a PITA but I found it easy enough to snake it through just popping the front cover up a bit. All in all, it takes a few hours.

sounds easy enough guys thanks. I'm going to cut a hole now. where did you all put your airfilters on the hosing?

After I drilled a hole in the ECU cover, I used one of the rubber grommets that they gave you to seal the line/hole.

I put my air filter and the rest of the junk all zip tied under the kick panel along the firewall. I had a lot of excess, which I should have shortened.

that's what I was going to do but I would still have the problem of getting the hose into the engine compartment once it was outside of the ecu box. right now I have the hose in the engine compartment from the ecu rubber outlet. but still have the problem of where to put the filter. maybe on the inside of the car by the pedals?

ya my kit came with a filter they want me to set up on the hose somewhere. is it even needed?

i dont see how an air filter in the boost guage hose would be beneficial to you.....it could be an anti buzz mechanism

I have it thru the wheel well but soon after installing it I realized I took the hard route lol. But watch out if the boost gauge starts acting up, check the rubber grommets that the boost hose goes thru but I've hard the engine get warm and shrink the rubber gromments and squeeze the hose saying I was getting like 32 psi and I'm like wooot but wait, somethings wrong lol.

maybe an air filter would prevent any long term dust or anything from the intake from getting up into the gauge?

seems like it would create a boost leak tho

i guess it's called an anit-buzz filter? maybe it dampens waves of air coming at the gauge for a smoother response? that would be my only guess. for now, i will just try to install it without the buzz filter if that is safe.

I thought it was an absorbent air filter that picks up any moisture that is sent through the line. I cut my boost line and added it right before it got to the last connection of the the installation.

sorry about that i overlooked that some how. I just installed everything but the filter and everything works great except the gauge rattles or "buzzes" when on the gas. I'll see if installing the filter tomorrow fixes that

did anyone else have an impossible time removing the windshield wiper? i removed the bolt after 2 hours of pulling on the wiper i gave up and just unscrewed the ecu cover's 2 visible screws pried it open with a flat head screw driver while my friend fed tubing for me from the bottom

its a mechanical boost gauge, its gonna rattle, that 'air filter' is most likely an anti buzzing mechanism and it should reduce the buzz considerably.....on the podi install (the one i have) it suggested a certain distance to be optimal when connecting the anti buzz....i think it was 8-10 inches from the boost guage itself was supposed to be optimal but it could be different with yours

I installed it and it still buzzes a little. damn. and before even reading that I just put it where it was convenient and it was about a foot away from the gauge. the vmr instructions show it installed behind the firewall. as for the windshield wiper, I had the same problem and just decided to leave it and just bend the top up to work with the hose.

anyone have any suggestions to decrease the buzz?

next time losen the bolt till it is held on by a few threads then take some vice grips with something on the ends like a few wraps of electrical tape or what ever so you don't mark up the car. then get one edge under the arm and the other on the bolt then clamp down. POP off it comes. i had to do that when the windshiled place put them on the wrong sides.
