What does "Headlight Dipped" mean?

Driving to work this morning and my indicator on the dash goes off and shows "Right Healight Dipped" then went off right away. When I got to work I pulled up to the building and both headlights were aimed level. What does that normally mean? The automatic level is going bad?

For me that has meant bulb out.

Its only out when the bulb is out. Then the warning goes off when the bulb comes back on. Can also be a ballast if you have xenons.

i think dipped headlight means they need to be adjusted/aimed, depending on how close to the building you were sitting when you judged whether they were level, they clould look fine if you're too close to the wall you shined them on.

I think it can also mean the difference between the voltage signal coming from your front and rear auto level sensors has exceeded the specified limit.

My 3.0 with xenon use to have this warning on several time, I do nothing (yet) and there is no warning so far.

I think if both light still on you should be good. I google some past threads, found that 'automatic leveling' or something may went? I'm not positive though.

you have to vag the car. You might get lucky and just clear the code and it goes away... but most the time you have to actually jack the car up while vaging it and re-level them to clear the warning light.

while driving in my parking garage a few months ago I got the headlight dipped warning and could tell that there was no light coming from that side of the car every time. the warning would go away and the light would come back on.

Because if you don't have xenon's, it does, in fact, mean your headlight bulb is out.

what am I missing then? because everytime my "dipped headlight" warning comes on, my passenger bulb goes out for a second. And yes i do have factory Xenons.

For cars equipped with halogen headlights "headlight dipped" does in fact mean "bulb out."

if u ever started the car with the headlights unplugged youll get a warning. do what audi skate snow did and just vag the car

Have you tried the ballast? I read a lot about this when i first got my car, and it seems that ballasts seemed to cure the issue for other people. I don't have factory xenon's though, so i can't say for sure.

i had the same problem, it was my bulb, the easiest way to find out either the ballast or the bulb, simply switch the bulbs, if u still get the same msg, then its ur ballast, if u get left head light dipped instead, then its ur bulb. good luck.

P.S i do have factory xenon.

I have factory Xenon also. It only did it once for about 1 sec then never came on again. It was dark out at 6:30 am and I never saw any headlight flicker off then back on. Hell who knows, these are the best cars ever made, but damn can they give you a headache too.
