Exhaust Mod - Resonator replaced w/ X-Pipe (video)

Got bored over the weekend with a few of my friends so all decided to get our resonators removed. e55 amg - resonator removed w/ straight pipes, e93 m3 - resonator removed with straight pipes, B8 s4 (myself) - resonator removed with an X-Pipe...
Car sounds excellent and much better than i expected. At around 2k-3k Rpms is a bit louder inside, which is almost unnoticeable unless you know how the car sounded stock. All other RPMS the car is quite inside.
Overall on the outside the car is only loud when you accelerate hard on it, when just cruising its hardly different.
The exhaust tone now is gorgeous and it has a really exotic sound to it, see for yourself.

I don't care for the raw "rasp" sound at about 3k-4k but the rest sounds okay. I'm sure it sounds better in person than what the video shows. What was the cost?

BTW - Do you have pics of the exhaust after the work was done? I'd like to see what they did.

Well the X-Pipe was $70, and the job was $80. So about $150... They were also able to weld everything up without any bends.

I would love an exhaust but can't internally justify a 2k cat back!

Anyone with a DSG done this mod? How is the drone? There is also a resonated xpipe you can get though I am not sure there would be any change in sound if you went resonated-x.

I purchased the Tru-X Crossovers, 2.5"... Our original exhaust is 2.25" so if i was to do it again i would purchased that size (2.25). Didnt realize this until i had the car up on the lift, etc...

Either one can be welded in properly with the right person.

Woohoo! Just bought my first mod for the car, and it's not even here yet! Hahaha! Just in case anybody else was interested, I bought it off of eBay from performance-curve and used the "Best Offer" function. I put in $65.00 and was INSTANTLY accepted. Free shipping too! Ive seen many ppl replacing the downpipe resonators with X-Pipe

You should post a video to this thread if you do so everyone can hear it. We might as well make this the official x-pipe thread. I'm thinking about getting one installed on my car this summer too. I'll attempt to post a video if I do.

I think it was the center resonator in the figure since his youtube video says he replaced the rear resonator.

If that's the stock exhaust then I applaud you, that sounds great. This is coming from a guy who spent thousands for his AWE.

I thought the "center resonator" is actually a muffler? Maybe I'm confusing it with aftermarket designs where they move the muffler up to a single center muffler, then straight through pipes to the rear valence.

I would not expect HP or torque to change with this mod, as the more restrictive stuff is still upstream. But if it's an X pipe perhaps that's 3-4 ft/lb, or a 1% power increase.

oh man i am doing this... i would imagine if its too much you could swap in some AWE resonated DPs and be done (they have said to be quieter than stockers)

Another option would be the magnaflow resonated X piple. Looks like a center resonator but it incorporates an x-pipe within. Not sure if you would notice any sound difference with this but could help reduce drone in DSGs. These are popular in ford/chevy v6s
