So I have The X-pipe from Magnaflow, great sound but a bit raspy wanted a deeper tone.
Contemplating Borla or Magnaflow as mufflers with AWE tips (purchased from AZ member)

Now from what I’ve read they are both almost identical in terms of sounds.

I’ve found this feedback from AchTung regards Magnaflow being “cheap glass pack” versus borla “all steel wool pack”

Can anybody chime in on this?

For those asking about doing a double x-pipe. There is a guy on the facebook page that did it and it sounded really good. No rasp, and deep.

I'd be interested in seeing some other peoples videos if they do this.

i have been contemplating doing something like this. Installing the magnaflow in the center and adding two smaller resonators instead of straight piping the center section (anyone use the OEM resonators instead)

Another guy just a page back or so used the stock baby resonators in place of the mufflers, it sounded good to me

Any link outside of Facebook? I'd like to look at getting rid of some of the drone I have in my setup. Magnaflow resonated x pipe in place of baby resonators, center res delete and stock mufflers.

I was thinking about doing this setup except with a non-res x-pipe. Do you have any videos of your setup and how bad is the drone? I know that is subjective but is it unbearable or how much? I was going to the shop this weekend to get it done.

having done a non res x-pipe - I would do resonated x-pipe to keep interior cabin drone down

One question brother, have you seen what happens to steel wool after it gets exposed to water? In good combustion you have water as a byproduct. Now ask yourself, how long will the steel wool material last until it all becomes rust and "flows away" or worse yet, messes up the welds inside the muffler itself.

There's a reason the OEM mufflers come with poly or glass pack material.

The non resonated X pipe dan be fiber wrapped to reduce drone a bit. Cover it with high heat silicone spray and it will
    Last a while.

The steel wool in high end mufflers is stainless steel wool. I would not fear its use.

There's a reason packed mufflers after a while sound louder. Whether fiber or not.

There seems to be some incorrect info here. All of our signature series mufflers feature a straight-through perforated core design with stainless steel packing. They do not 'blow-out' over time like the lower end units with fiberglass packing. As B18b1ex pointed out, the steel material used is stainless, which will last much longer than other types of packing. On top of this, we also cover all of our mufflers and complete exhaust systems with a lifetime warranty against any defects.

Hmm. Not sure. I took mine out at the same time as everything else, but I assumed since they were so small they had the least effect at sound deadening.

I tried to capture the drone I get but it didn't come out very well from my iPhone camera.

Basically when you're giving it the beans, it's fine. Nice tone and loud but not excessive. When you're moderately accelerating, however, that 2-3k range can shake the cabin.

Damn, sometimes it'll come up if we listen thru the car speakers. Thanks for trying anyways! I think I'm going to do what Ephry73 suggested and wrap the non-res x with fiber (assuming fiberglass but I need to do some research first) and give that a try first. Only thing that's making me think I could be fine is that when I'm driving I typically hang around 1800 and sometimes around 2100 if I'm passing. Or I'm going straight past 3000

Just the one posted after the photo. I'll try to get some better ones soon. There's a bit of drone from 2-2300 rpm but above that it's surprisingly quiet. Thinking of replacing the 11385 with a non x-pipe muffler though. The tone is almost too low for my preference...

Not sure how you're math works.

OEM - front resonators, middle resonators, rear mufflers
This - front resonators, middle resonators, rear resonators

    How is that more restrictive

Does anyone know where the packing material is located inside the rear mufflers? There are three chambers: front, middle, and rear. Didn't know if packing material is in all of them, or just one or two of them.

The tone of the 11385 resonated X is so much better than stock, and it is a little louder than stock, but I'm ready for just one more notch louder and want to keep the sound similar. Thinking of de-wigging the rear mufflers and seeing if that makes a difference. Anybody here cut one open? I did see a pic from another member's "my photo gallery" but I'm not sure whether they had already removed the wig, or if there really is no wig, or not much wig.

Just cut the resonators from yours, literally the same thing that awe non res downpipes are for a fraction of the cost.

so this is a little nuts, but today i cut open my oem rear mufflers (for science) while still on the car to see if removing any packing material would make a difference in sound. there are three chambers to the oem mufflers. the rear-most chamber closest to exhaust tips is a helmholtz resonator, and is isolated from the other two forward chambers. there is no packing material in there, and the exhaust pipes that go to the tips have no holes in them in that chamber.

the front two chambers have packing material in them that can be removed. these chambers are separated from each other by a perforated plate. the exhaust pipes have holes in them in both chambers, but not many holes in the middle chamber - most holes in the pipes are in the front chamber.

after removing all packing material and sealing up the cut "flaps" with aluminum tape (temporary), i can report that there is no change whatsoever in the sound. nothing. not any louder, and not any different.

luckily, the aluminum tape developed a cut on the test drive and it started to sound better and a little louder! will report back with updates and any changes
