Tried searching in this thread and the other, but not sure what to search on. I want to set the cluster MMI display to default to the radio options (FM/AM/Sirius/presets) instead of the phone. Has anyone found this?

?? not quite sure what you mean... The DIS display? If so, mine goes to whatever I had it on last I think...

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this, but instead of starting a brand new thread I wanted to throw a hail mary here:

Is there a way ** vag-com or otherwise ** to display your dsg gear in manual mode really big in the DIS? Like, instead of your speed? I would really love just to see very clearly a bigass number telling me what gear I'm in. I don't really have a use for the mph reading as there's a big grey dial right next to the DIS with a needle that points to my mph. The little bitty gear readout, however, is harder to read at a glance.

Not sure about DSG, but with 6MT and the efficiency program displayed, you can toggle through the screens (using the up-down rocker on the END of the wiper stalk) to get to one display with a reasonably large gear indicator smack in the middle of the display.

Wow, I thought I'd flipped through all the screens with all the buttons but if that really is the way to do it...I'm pretty dumb. Either way, thanks.

Thanks to the OP and all the contributors for getting this list together. I just took care of several items from the list, but didn't get everything I wanted to work.

Regarding the "hidden menu" - I don't see it, despite "enabling it" per the instructions above. Where am I supposed to be looking for this hidden item?

Regarding the LED DRLs - I'd like to set those to about 50-60 percent brightness, but the adjustment is labeled "duty cycle", and ranges from 5-100 with the default setting being 9. I tried a few settings, but couldn't see any difference in the brightness. Any advice on that?

    TIA.

    +1 for sticky...

Press and hold Car & Setup for about 6 seconds ..... and once in tread VERY carefully

LEDs - the brightness setting is for the LEDs in side light mode i.e. not in DRL mode. If you're tring to make them brighter in the day then you won't. Are you checking them in the evening when dark?

    OK, thanks.

I was actually trying to dim them during the day in DRL mode. They're hella bright (see what I did there?;-), too bright IMO, and I wanted to tone them down. No go though, I guess.

    I appreciate the clarifications.

I thought I'd seen a post somewhere about changing the startup screen for the MMI to something specific?

Seems that mine always goes back to wherever I left it, which I agree makes sense in many ways, however, comma, I'd prefer to start on the NAV map screen every time.

Is there a way to do this?

    TIA, again....

Hmmm, only discussions I have seen on this pretty much concluded that it couldn't be done. Same with having Radio start up in Presets.

If either of these have been figured out, I hope someone will post info here.

Can someone who enabled the ambiance lighting enlighten me on exactly what it does? I read the FAQ here http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagComINLight.html but I didn't completely understand. It appears that at night when driving you can have the footwell lighting on, but then in that FAQ it says " Master light switch will not control these lights at all anymore. They will work separately through the MMI. " What exactly does that mean? When I am in my car at night or during the day if I want to turn the light switch on in the front, it will no longer work?

Sounds to me like the ambience lighting will work independently of your headlights, and will be operated via the MMI in some settings folder?

Hi Everyone. Thank you for this useful thread.

I activated the CD ripping in my MMI 3G using above instruction in hidden menu. But when in MMI, I can not see how to actually rip a CD into the HD, the only import source into the jukebox remains the SD card.

    Any suggestion would be welcome.

One more issue that did not work out for me and I post here as related to VAG coding is regarding the AUX heating. I have been successful at enabling ventilation menu. AUX heating also shows up but if Turn it on, it goes off. Also might be important to mention that I do have a suppl. Heating with either auto or off setting.

Not sure, but it might be that my Audi A5 tdi 3.0 built oct 2010 does not have an electric water pump? As I am comvonced there is an aux heating, but maybe it can not run with engine off ? One more info is that the contra 18 and 07 do not respond....

    Cheers

Aux ventilation works and it does show aux heating but it doesn't work as you don't have an aux heater! ;)

With regards the CD ripping, I did it once just to see if I could but never since. I can't remember where it is. I'll take a look tomorrow and let you know... unless someone else gets in first.

    Hi Scottyuk,

Thank you for your reply. I found out about CD ripping, one has to use the DVD in dashboard and not the CD players in glove compartment. When choosing import, CD appears as option, track names and album name is also imported when available on CD. I would recommend launching them when driving as it is a long process whereas the task can run in background when driving around.

I was trying to the following:

    Enable Gauge Test/Needle Sweep
    [17 - Instruments] [Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 1
Bit 0 - Check the box for "Gauge Test/Needle Sweep active"

When i pressed the "DO IT" button, the VCDS says new coding accepted. But when I try to read again the code, it still the same as default and there's no needle sweep when i start the car. I did all these when the car ignition is ON. Anything I might be doing wrongly?

Hahahaha here is another new one! It uses ABS brakes to hold the car when it is uphill at drive mode (or downhill if car is Reverse).
I tested it and it works fine on my 2011 S4. Hill hold assist holds the car for 2-3 seconds when I release the brake before I give gas.

    Enable park hill hold asssist.
    [03 - ABS brakes][Security Access - 16] (Enter code presented by program)
    [Coding – 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 1
Bit 6 set to 1 to enable hill hold assist.

Nice find, especially for three pedal cars.

Don't think I'll bother though. If I'm on a steep hill and someone stops too close behind me, I just use the electro-e-brake which auto releases as soon as I release the clutch.

I assume you have DSG. Do you really need hill hold assist with two pedals (assuming of course that you also have two legs)?

This is a very cool feature. My wife's 6mt X3 has it and makes starting on hills almost too easy. Interested to hear what people with the DSG have to say about it after enabling...

Has anyone been able to successfully VAG-COM the number of blinks (turn signal) from 3 to 5+?

5 blinks is much better for safe lane change than 3... this is must have if it can be done!

I did this on my Touareg (5 blinks) - however it is always hit or miss if it will actually hold the coding.

    Couple questions:

    (1) Will the "Set ADS to specific preset" work on a sport diff non-ADS car? (also non-nav if that matters). If I understand correctly, I can make it default to "comfort" when I start the car, but then I can still use the buttons to manually switch to auto or dynamic?

    (2) I did the DSG gear selection, side mirror reverse, and seatbelt chime yesterday and all work perfectly. But I can't get the remote windows to work. The windows should roll down if I hold the unlock button on the remote, correct? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help.

In regards to 2 did you go into MMI and enable the windows? you can do front, rear and/or sunroof in any fashion. There is some coding to open the sunroof instead of tilting it as well. you might do a search for that if that interests you.

Is there a way to enable window up & down from the window switches AFTER you turn the car off/take the key out? I was able to code this on a '10 MK6 GTI, but found no such luck on this car...

I'll have to check but I think mine does that, at least until you open the doors. Worst case, just enable remote window operation and use the key fob.

When i pressed the "DO IT" button, the VCDS says new coding accepted. But when I try to read again the code, it still the same as default and there's no needle sweep when i start the car. I did all these when the car ignition is ON. Anything I might be doing wrongly?
Not sure if this window requires it, but on any windows that has a test button in the lower left where you change the value,
you have to test it before you save it, then save it... good luck

    New a4 owner

    Hi guys,

Ive moved up the VAG ladder from a Golf to A4. I want to make some mods but having spent beyond my budget on the car i dont want to send £££ on the VAG cable. i have a B8 A4 - can someone please confirm if only the original cable will work or if there are any aftermarket ones that will do the job?

All current VW/Audi/SEAT/Skoda models use the same CAN interface, so if you have the connector for a recent Golf it'll fit your A4 as well.
