replaced the n80 valve - no CEL, smoother idle, no vibrations when in D etc

    25$ at the dealer.
Replaced it in about half an hour, would have been quicker if I didn't do it at night using the moonlight to see anything :) the only problem was getting the vacuum hoses of the valve.. First used a hair dryer but it didn't help so I poured some boiling water and then had to use my superpowers to get it off !

idle is smoother, the clicking noises of the valve are gone. downshifting and coming to a stop is no longer followed by juddering. When in Drive, it also doesn't vibrate as much. And of course, I don't have to pump the pedal to start the car after refueling.

    :)

yeap... the P0441 code. Emission control system:incorect flow, and few other related cels.
It sometimes poped up and stayed for a day or two and then went away. Last time it wouldnt go off for days, so I stoped being lazy and replaced the valve.

@mo17k - this is the part, it's positioned on the right from the pcv, you can't miss it :)

imho, everyone should replace this if they have more than ..hm.. 50k miles on the car. Or even less. It's like the pcv and the cam follower, it WILL go wrong.

Ohhh I see, where did you get the valve from? Just hit 52k miles and am thinking about replacing anything that should be replaced, that way it doesn't randomly fail on me

    dealer.
    part number 06E 906 517 A - it's 17 to 20$

And it's not an 'updated' version like the pcv or DV so the old one will have the same number on it.

I also replaced anything members on here mentioned... dv, pcv, cam follower. Car felt much quicker after that, and I didn't even know my cam follower was slightly damaged and my pcv was on the way out.

I've tried to look the part up on www.genuinevwaudiparts.com it says it's $11.xx but it doesn't say there it's for our car(they have all this other models). It seems like I never find anything on this website. Can somebody give a hand here?

Just replaced mine about a month ago. $15 from the dealer, and only a few minutes to replace. Car runs much smoother now. Had the same code: P0441 - gone.

    Shiro - it's for the 2.0T

so you have a code then replace? or replaced and it threw a code. Not sure what you guys mean by that.

So it short, code or no code change it if you at or over 50k.

CEL came on. Scanned it and found code P0441. Did some research and decided to replace the N80, which resolved the issue.

No offense meant to Tankdeer, but anyone with access to an autozone, 20 dollars, and google could have done this.

It even redirects to a 5 year old thread, here, that says the same thing.

Why am I getting called out on this? I didn't start the thread, nor am I confused on the fix. I fixed mine a couple months ago by basically the same procedure you recommend. Scanned it (myself), researched, replaced. I am just trying to help others with the same issue since it's such an easy fix

Conversely, I have a 2006 and mine is exactly where it is in that pic. Facing the engine, it's back and to the right, under the PCV, slightly forward and more right than the HPFP

Anyone with this error, also get a recurring gas cap warning? I'm stuck between replacing the gas cap (seal possibly bad) or replacing the n80 valve.

I did not. If you're getting a gas cap error, I would check that first. Although the N80 is cheap so it couldn't hurt to do both.

I'll go with the valve 1st, as it's cheaper. If it's a no fix, at least I know the valve will be good to go for awhile. $17 at my dealer and being set aside.

    Thanks!!!!!

I replaced mine just last week, problem was the car was a real pain to start every after re-fueling. I had to floor the gas pedal just to start it. After replacing the N80 purge valve, the car easily starts right up after re-fuel, and it's back to being smooth now. The part costed me $18 at the dealer

OP: how did you take off the oem hose clemps, seem like they cannot be reused. BTW, thanks for the info.

just buy a new set of clamps(I bought the screw adjustable ones), the crimp type clamps that were one were a pain to remove. I had to use a screw driver to pry it off the hose. Removing the clamps and busted valve took me about 45 minutes (and back ache). The new valve and new clamps were installed within 8 minutes.

Maybe check the price with your stealership first. Picked one up in Burlington, MA last night... got to the counter and it was $25. AARGH, I hate dealers.

Recently had cel stating gas cap was open, then idle was too rich. Also after filling up gas tank the car would be hard to start. Replaced the N80 purge valve, reset the fault code and everything is working great- idle is smooth and very stable.

You should be fine using this clamp as a replacement if you fuck up the other ones:

    I'll be installing mine tomorrow.

This is absolutely the wrong hose clamp to use. Garden variety hose clamps that you can buy at any hardware store do not belong in any vehicle at all.
Don't use it. This garden hose clamp slots have sharp edges that cut into the hose. The clamp band have sharp edges that cuts into the hose as well.

Use either OE or OEM hose clamps that don't cut into the hose. The OE or OEM clamps have stamped & rolled teeth with fillet radius corners that dig into the hose. The clamp band edges are angled ~ 15-45 deg. so it doesn't cut into the hose. OE or OEM clamps have self-locking worm-gear screw feature which is very important to prevent the screw from unscrewing itself due to engine vibration
