No worries as I wasn't insulted, just confused.

I bought a scanner a while back because the autozone at my old house stopped doing free scans. Turned out to be one of the best auto tool investments I've made in a while, and it was only like $60 IIRC. Makes researching a CEL so much easier.

Also is great of clearing codes... Autozone as a company decided to stop clearing codes, so those cheap scanners work perfectly.

My N80 was acting up but also one of the line would not longer stayed clipped to the camshaft cover so I replaced it as well
Here is the DIY I posted a while ago

I just installed the N80 at work and drove home. It took me 15mins for the whole install, hardest part was taking off the old clamps.

Thus far, the only result I can verify is better fuel mileage (1L/100km less than before), which is more than enough to justify $18 and 15mins of my lunch break.

Thanks OP, you just helped me keep my money in my pocket!

Recently had cel stating gas cap was open, then idle was too rich. Also after filling up gas tank the car would be hard to start. Replaced the N80 purge valve, reset the fault code and everything is working great- idle is smooth and very stable.

Hey tankdeer which model scanner did you get from autozone and how much can the scanner do? Just read and clear codes?

I don't remember the model off the top of my head, but it's orange. And yeah, it's a base model. read and clear is about all it does - but that's all I wanted it for.

I'm glad you were able to find a cheapo scanner that works. I first brought one of those orange scanners that said ODBII compatible but it didn't work. Returned it and ended up getting the good grade flea bay cable from the same supplier. Cost me about $90 but it worked great and got some more insight into the car. Not as good as Ross tech but it works.

x2, the small vibrations are still there after startup when car is put in drive. It may be me but before I could heard other parts inside the cabin shaking when I first got into gear and now I think they have stopped. But for $20.04 its worth being able to say that I replaced the "Tankentlueftungsventill".

Would this be a good bang for your buck "fix" if you arent getting a CEL, but notice the tranny shifts rough at low rpms sometimes?

^^The placement is pretty much stationary, you place the device in to its seating and connect the tubes. There is no other way you can do wrong with this.
