What are the signs of a bad rear driver side upper control arm?

I have an awfully annoying knock/rattle after installing coilovers and need to troubleshoot.

Oh, and I've reinstalled this coilover 3 times and the bolts and nuts are all super tight. All of them. Of course, it could be the valving in coilover, but I want to make sure it's not something else before I send them back.

I have not checked the sway bar links nor the control arm, but I'm wondering what are the symptoms of a bad upper rear CA. I believe my car has never had that replaced and it has 125k on it.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

My 01 with 180k miles just had all my rear CA /rear diff carrier bushings replaced. I repainted all the parts and the rear coilover mounts. While it may be an overlooked part of our susupension I want to let everyone know that it makes a very noticeable more stable feel. It was a good time to replace my E brake cables too as they were 4 years old and here in New England it seems that's the life of them. I also had a bad rear track rod/toe link (adjustable from AWE). You can get replacements from Aurora or Mcmaster. Had my rack and pinion replaced and JHM slave cyclinder -both made a noticeable difference also. Panzer plate too. All work was done by ESP in Sterling Mass, kudo's for those guys who always do a great job.

Classic symptom is when you pull into a driveway or parking lot (so the wheels are turned), and at low speed you hear and feel a clunk. Otherwise, just a general mushy feeling in the steering can be an upper control arm. Replace them in pairs (2 on each side at a time), otherwise you will just accelerate the wear of the already used one and find yourself pulling the strut once again.

You should also take a look at your upper shock mounts. They are often overlooked. But since the problem started after you installed coilovers, I am going to lean towards you forgetting to tighten something up.

Were the coilovers brand new? Or used?

Good description for the front, but OP was asking on the rear.
