    anyone-ever-considered-a-variable vane holset ?

    There is B5 guy running one of those on his car. They sound crazy when the spool. check out the 55sec mark

    Yeah, I dug some more and I guess a few 1.8T guys have run one. By the looks of it, you'd have to run a mechanical stop to keep the slide section from retracting all the way to the 4cm2 spot. I guess that range was used for engine braking and would create an enormous amount of backpressure.

    I figure an EBC on a wastegate actuator for the VGT mechanism and an external wastegate to cap the peak boost would make a decent setup. Even better would be a staged EBC like the turbosmart ones. For the price, this looks like it could be an interesting proposition.

    Thanks for the link, it looks like a promising idea. I`d be curious to see how it works on a 1.8l displacement (i.e. if you could get the same boost profile as his 2.1l by tweaking the VGT actuation). For the downtime it would take to get it running right I think I`d be best to use a HY35 for round one (engine build and maestro tuning) then swap in a limited slip diff (I`m FWD) and VGT turbo for round two.

    Still, if he can prove that you can get one running right, I think this turbo has some major potential for a small displacement engine.
