Clarification on Dentist Drill Whine

I searched quite a bit, but I am just curious is the dentist drill noise usually only apparent when your actually boosting and not still in vacuum because all turbos whistle so I just don't want to confuse the whistle/whine with the dentist drill noise. I am at 127k miles on OEM turbos and I want to chip but am hesitant the turbos sound healthy but who knows........

I had actually been concerned about that as well... I occasionally got paranoid as well. Looked it up on youtube and it seems to be a bit more obvious than I expected. Kind of hard to hear on speakers, but with headphones or if you listen carefully, it's pretty obvious:

I chipped at 140k with healthy turbos and they died after 100 miles chipped... to each their own.

yes it is, imagine dentist drill sound but 10x louder and clearly audible when driving 80mph with windows/sunroof closed.

Ignore that guy. If his turbos were perfectly fine, then they wouldn't have failed in 100 miles. The harder anything is run, the quicker it will fail (in most cases at least). If everything seems fine, I'd say have a little fun. The turbos are going to eventually need work/replacements no matter what.

My KO4s sound like this, has sense they went in about 6 months back. I bought a set of used "under 10K mile" KO4s and I was a little worried about them, thinking I had been ripped off but got flamed for bringing it up. I suppose my fears were correct then...

Meh....I've had turbos sound like that for 10's of thousands of mines. Are your's going to blow? Who knows. But you cant worry about it....just drive it like you normally would.

Kinda my take on it. I daily it, don't hammer all the time. Like anything with these cars, who knows when it'll go...
