Who has 50% tint all around? or 50% front and 35% on rear?

So it's end of the month and here in NYC (especially with their "quotas") I got pulled over for tint.....yet again. So now I'm highly considering going lighter as i will be driving with windows closed much more often.

In NY tint law is:
Windshield Non-reflective tint is allowed on the top 6 inches of the windshield.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 70% of light in.
Rear Window Any darkness can be used.

They seem to give two tickets if the tint is two different shades.

Currently i have 35% on two front and 20% on rear three(or 5 if you include the small windows) My car is black on black, matte black rims but with chrome pieces left untouched.

That sucks dude. I hate the look of uneven tint, but 50% is hardly there at all. Don't some cars come from the factory with 30-35% in the rear? I have run 18% all around for years in Colo with no issues. Maybe you should just move so you don't have to make this difficult decision.

Do you know the exact law on tints there?

Ha, not moving. I did pretty good and went on more than half a year without any tickets. This is NY. Rear windshield is any tint and the rest is 70%.
Anything under is illegal.

That's another plus on living in the Dom Rep. .... I got 5% all around (except the windshield). Planning on getting 60% for this. I say get 35% all around and be done with it.

When I got mine re-done I was told 50% was put on the front. Well I got pulled over and it registered as 42%. Although it does not seem like a lot, the 50% is darker than you would think especially with a black/black car. 50% all the way around gets my vote...

I believe our car windows came with slightly tinted glass from the factory, which would cause the discrepancy.

I've got 35% all around on both my cars and never and issue. Law here is 50% front and 35% rear tho - so I'm not really pushing it much. 50% is barely doing anything - go with 35% all around and love it.

He measured the front drivers and rear drivers. His issue was "safety", I got pissed at his bs of "oh i dont know if you would have a gun there or something especially at night. This happened at 8:50am. It was bright.

Leaning towards that to save on re-tinting cost.

Windows from factory seem to be at about 5% or so.

The tint I have is LLumar. Thinking of visiting a place that does Huper Optik as i have heard good things about this. But then i pay for all 4 windows. Here i wouldn't pay anything since on all three of my rears I can definitely find a bubble of some sort haha

I figured it had to be that. The place that did mine is pretty reputable and I trust they know what they are doing. Either way, I think the 50% (plus whatever factory tint) looks good. The black interior helps too....

i have 35% on my S4 and it's not dark at all.. never been hassled even when getting pulled over in Brooklyn or Nassau. i had 20% on my A4 and it was a lot darker..

Love the Zine. Learn something everyday. I'd assumed all along that lower % was less tint. Nope. Quick search (I've learned not to ask without trying to find it myself first) says lower % means less light allowed through the tent, and thus the darker it is.

Either way, I'd say keep it the same. 35% all around.

Factory tint is around 70% all the way around if I remember right besides windshield, not 5% haha. The percent means how much light gets through, not how much gets blocked.

IMO two tone tints look odd, and even if you go to two diff shops and get the same % it can be a little off due to which tint they use. I would say go 35% all the way around, mine is black also and i have 20% which is pretty dark, but my friend has one with 35% (black s4) which looks great. 35% all around for the win.

I have 50% on all sides and the back and it basically adds what I'll call "a hint of tint" to the car, but that was what I was going for. The tint "laws" are pretty strict in PA, too (no post-factory tint allowed at all). That said, I have a quartz grey A4, so the little bit of tint looks so much better than nothing at all, and I have passed many cops and never been hassled. The 50% looks much darker on cloudy/rainy days, but sunny days it looks close to no tint sometimes... but I still am happy with it (maybe because I'm over 40). :)

I meant about 5% difference between what the tint is and what the reading will be. My rears are 20% tint and it came up as 15% on the meter

I had 30s all around on my jeep and i loved it. My sister decided to go 50 front 30 rear on the audi before it became mine and i hate it. the fronts dont do anything except at night.....

i have 50 on front and back. it's what i was looking for. plus, i have black on black so the 50 looks darker than it really is. so it works out and im very happy.

I have 70% front and 20% in the back of light coming.

The front one's come stock like that. Might put a later of 20%.

Wow, thank god i've never been pulled over for tint tickets. I've got 35% all around in NJ where it is illegal to have anything on the front windows. If i ever was pulled over I'd simply say that the sunlight irritates my skin or some crap because most states allow for a medical condition ;)

Thank god i'm moving to a state where front tints are actually legal.

ive got 50% all around and i still get my balls busted. maybe it looks darker because everything on the exterior and interior is black (titanium edition). if you want ill post some pictures later, damn work doesnt allow me too.

That would be very helpful! Day light preferred but if you can take a night pic that would be good too.

Funny thing is i never got pulled over at night, now that i said it i probably will tonight

its just hit and miss, i have 20% on my truck and lexus and never have any problems. The A4 i bought with 35% fronts and will probably tear those out and put 20% in to flow better. I guess they aim for the modded out vehicles instead of the mom's rx330 with 20% tint rolling around.
