Jetta GLI vs. Audi A4

Currently own a B7 A4 FWD and was wondering if someone could tell me what the major (mechanical) differences are.

So far I've got...

Same size rear rotors
Front rotors are slightly larger on A4
DSG vs. CVT

eww cvt?!? Well your 2.0t is mounted longitudinally while the jetta's is transverse. um... The two engines are different engine codes and built with different parts that are essentially the same. different injectors... and a million other little things.

Audi has a four link front suspension where as mkv has a regular mcpherson strut design
Audi wont have tq steer because of equal length drive axles.
Thats all i can add that hasnt been mentioned

The mk5 Jetta is ugly.

we're talking about a GLI...HUGE difference between a standard MKV jetta. and the Recaro leather seats in the GLI blow the A4's out of the water. i don't think you have any idea what you're talking about. i own an MKV GLI and an audi, there are a ton of differences and yes the audi is of higher quality but the GLI stands alone for what it is. i'd say its better than the B7 A4 in many ways, and almost $20,000 less new!!!

And weight. About 400 pounds lighter as far as I can tell, and honestly, the DSG is immensely better than the 6-speed auto in my car and I assume the CVT. Shifts are amazingly quick and in my opinion it's a better, smoother transmission. I'm very bitter I don't have it actually lol.

Test drove a GLI with DSG and that thing was smooth...much smoother than what I am used to. I'm just having a hard time convincing myself that the GLI is a better car.

Gli and gti in the mkv platform do not come with recaro seating in any configuration besides overseas. Just sport buckets. I had mk4 gli recaros in my gti and they were awesome... and yes even regular mk4 gti seats are a huge leap over the a4 but the a4 seats are made to accommodate people of all sizes. Theres a fatass around here with an rs4 and the drivers bolsters are all snapped off because he's too fat for the car.

GLI is quick. I had a stage 2 2001 Jetta 1.8t tiptronic, and was very disappointed that I was neck and neck in a race with a stock, newer GLI.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesnt the FWD A4 have a transverse 2.0T engine, just like the GLI?

I've never seen an a4 with a transverse engine. I've had longitudinal vw/audi with fwd. The TT motor is transverse whether or not its fwd or awd.

My last car was a GLI. 07 white with the votex kit. I got tons of comments on how good it looked. It was a fun car but the comforts of the Audi are far superior in my opinion..

I had a 2007 GLI Fahrenheit DSG and replaced it with a 2007 A4 3.2L Quattro. On most things the A4 is a lot better. Power-wise, fun factor and comfort the A4 wins. I only miss the self opening trunk, fuel economy, AUX-IN and the Imola Yellow paint.
