I was literally 5 minutes away from home. stopped by Ace Hardware to grab some white plasti-dip. About half a mile away from the highway ramp this happens.

I'm driving behind a pickup truck > he's driving behind a sedan. Sedan decides to completely stop to make a last minute turn into Starbucks

. Sedan completely stops > truck completely stops as to not hit the sedan. I see the truck stop maybe a 1/5 of a second too late. Slam on my brakes and i slide completely into the truck. Fuck. Did this just happen?? Shit. I see steam coming out my engine with already fucked up hood. Truck takes off. Wtf? I call the cops and once they show up the driver of the truck comes back. The hell? Man. this sucks. I never thought i'd see the day when i make a thread and post up pics of this.

Damage [to me] doesn't look too bad. i'll have to get everything settled with insurance company to see. good thing it was a truck and nothing lower because the hood/grille took most of the damage. hopefully the AWE FMIC is okay

In this pic you see that my steering fluid completely leaked out and therefore i couldnt steer the SOB out of traffic.

p.s. i took a few pics before the tow truck got there but idk wtf is up with Iphone that it came out completely dark? maybe the sun hit the lense?

And this is a friendly remind as to why I HATE Colorado drivers (not you). People do not know how to drive in this town. I was heading home on Evans last night getting onto Santa Fe and some douche decides to cut an entire lane to get onto the ramp for Santa Fe and nearly took out the car in front of me and me. And then there was the guy in the second to left lane on 25 yesterday, with no one in front of him mind you, who decided to hop into the left lane for no apparent reason causing me to have to hit the brakes hard to avoid hitting him. It's quite obvious that they give a license to any retard in this state.

Anyhow, sorry about your misfortune.

seriously wtf is up with these people? I can honestly say that i'm a good driver. I notice things that no one else would. i've always managed to avoid people like these but some reason today out of any other time i was just a tad too late.

the top of the grille broke and flew off, some other pieces stayed on but broken. hood is completely fucked. my LH headlight got a little scratched up nothing big. RH headlight was wobbling off the supports. Not sure how the FMIC is doing though. From what i looked at it may have taken the hit like a trooper. not too sure though. i could be wrong because i'm not running a crashbard but it was a pretty tall truck.

oh get this. cop gives me a ticket for Careless Driving (4pts!)

I'm just so..blah! right now

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!!!! same damage. same accident. only thing that really needed to be replaced was my grill and my hood. however, the brackets holding my headlights to my car were slightly cracked.

You know, I'm not the most courteous driver on the road, but I know how my car and what it can do. I'll pull out in front of someone, and they might freak out a little, but my car is faster than most, and I know how much space I need to get around. It's these fucking idiots that think everyone else has to maneuver around them when they have a piece of shit ford escort. I feel for you brother.

come to think of it, you're right. damn those women and their last minute decisions to get Starbucks! fack.

so if you rear end someone, it's automatically you're fault? is there no way i can fight it? i mean i slammed on my brakes - the same with every car behind me. i just happened to slide into the truck. i was 2 car lengths behind him btw. speed limit was 45.

You would have to prove an act of god such as a meteor hitting the car in front of you and sending it shooting back towards you. I wouldn't even bother. Take the hit and move on :/

if you saw steam coming from the engine and by the looks of the puddle color and where the dent is on your hood im thinking you cracked your radiator vs your steering fluid

the dent looks high enough to have cleared the fmic and if it cleared that then it cleared the power steering no?

again this is all based off of 3 photos so take it for what its worth it doesn;t look that messed up tho, sorry for the crappy day tho

Denver drivers make me a bad driver (as in fast and idiotic). I was headed to DTC last week and somehow I managed to be doing 80 on 25 while everyone else was doing around 40. How is that possible? How can I manage to maintain that speed through traffic while everyone else is going so slow? And just now, coming home on 70 and some idiot is sitting in the left lane, not passing anyone, and 4 cars had to pass on the right and the woman STILL wouldn't get over. For real. Why the hell do the drivers out here suck so bad? It's not like driving is rocket science. I truly believe that people who are on the roads here have nowhere to be, hence why they drive so damn slow and stupid. When I'm in the car I have somewhere I need to be, hence why I do the speed limit (or a bit more than it).

Anyhow, sorry for turning this into a "Colorado drivers suck balls" thread.

But they do! I may hate Texas, but they do have something going for them. Drivers there are more courteous, and they will move over for you. They watch for people behind them, and they will pull onto the shoulder to let you by. That is of course legal there, and the shoulders are wider than the actual road, but hey, they pay attention. I hate colorado drivers. The only ones who will watch out for you here are truckers whose jobs depend on their driving safety.

I get a sense that Colorado drivers are as bad as the ones over here, constantly driving well below the speed limit, even in the passing lane. The limits are lower than any other state I've lived to begin with, and what's crazy is people drive like they're physically challenged when it rains a little. It rains here almost everyday, they should be used to it, I'm from Texas and I could drive in this weather without issue the day I moved here....

Man I'm so angry now... Sorry for what happened to you, that car was/is badass. You gotta let us know if the AWE turns out fine, as you know I don't have a crash either and maybe need to do something about it sooner than later, like some cutting or something.

Wait wait wait.....you said the guy drove off? And then came back? How long was this? What was the truck guys story? Im getting weird ideas that the original driver might of went to switch with actual owner of vehicle? But then idk how well that would play out. When the truck driver came back was he in the same spot as when you hit him? He should be fined for leaving scene of accident. Did cops know about him driving off?

I would say try and fight the points at least. That's major bs. When I was side swiped it was pretty much not my fault but the other insurance company decided to go 50/50 and then tried to blame me for the accident. To top things off the other driver got a ticket for expired insurance so wtf?

Yeah it's supposed to, but apparently there are some of us that aren't so lucky. Mine will not fit, and it's not a matter of something not being adjusted enough. In modeling terms the cooler would clip into my crash bar over an inch at the ends of the cooler.

There isn't any amount "fiddling" that can be done to compensate for that kind of riding condition. They tried to say my car might have been in an accident and that my crash bar may be pushed in, but my carfax is clean and my bumper fits on the mounting supports of the crash bar perfectly, and it aligns with the hood and headlights perfectly as well.

Houston drivers are stupid too. I think it's a general thing of American drivers.
Your car doesn't look bad but when I got hit, the initially said it was about 3k, then it was bumped up to 6k.

You know when the other driver drove off and turned at the block down and later came back (about a good 5 minutes) I guess it did seem a little suspicious. Wait I just remembered. He walked back and left his car at that block. Maybe he could have switched. the thought never occurred to me.

As for the fluid it was a pinkish red fluid and I for sure know that was the steering fluid. Not only that I could not get the steering wheel to budge an inch. Car was still running until the cops came. Later started it back up and everything was fine. Oh the joy. I'm so frustrated right now. Idk what to do. I finally called the insurance company to file a claim. They'll have an agent out on Friday to get estimates. So far they told me that I'm covered however I'm at fault. That's BS and my court date is in December so hopefully I can get the points taken care of. Fees idc just the points.

You didn't mention anything about other driver leaving the scene did you? Did he come back and line up the same way? That sounds fishy as hell to me. I wonder if that block is where his house is lol

I've concluded that most cars in Colorado don't have mirrors; this is the only logical explanation for why people make lane changes without looking and why someone will sit in the passing lane and drive 15 UNDER the limit.

I'm originally from Wisconsin and if you sit in the left lane, you will get run over. Illinois drivers will fly up behind you, flash their lights and honk their horn for you to move over. In Wisconsin we moved, here in Colorado people slam on their brakes and give you the finger like you're in the wrong for passing IN THE PASSING LANE! Every time I go to the mountains I get the finger because someone is mad that I'm passing them in the passing lane; no joke...every single time I drive up the to the mountains I get at least one person flipping me off.

I'd hate to see Colorado drivers in Europe.

actually i did. when i made the 911 call i told them i was in an accident but that the other driver took off. when the cops showed up "the driver" came back, not with his car, just him. i told the cops that he originally ran, but then some stranger came up to me and told me it was him that i hit. i'm sure the cop gave him a ticket for evading the scene, but who knows, maybe not.
