    Newbie Brake Question for an 02 1.8T Avant Quattro

    we have a 165,xxx on the car, and the pass front wheel always seems to have way more brake dust on it than any other wheel, on top of that, i've noticed if i take my hads off the wheel the car has a pretty hard pull to the right. That makes me think possibly i've got a sticky rotor, however, i've also got some clunking / rattling in the front susp when going over bumps, and i'm guessing that's probably some worn out control arm bushings and tie rod ends, which i've read can also cause a pull. Back to the brakes, the rears pads are pretty worn, the front pads are in great shape but the rotors apear to be rather old because they have very small little grooves in them, not grooves from a caliper or worn out pad, but similar grooves to my old worn out 01 S4 stock rotors at 50K miles. Due to the cars age/mileage i don't care to spend a lot of $$$ upgrading the brakes cause it's simply a dd commuter car the jeeps are our toys What is a good route to go, i want to replace rotors all the way around, new calipers up front and new pads in the rear....should i look in the classifieds here for some used S4 brakes from a B7 or just buy aftermarket stock replacement parts.....also is there any thing special i need to know about changing the brakes other than getting the tool to twist the rear caliper piston back in

    Ya good luck getting the front calipers off without a gun.

    What exactly is your question then? Are you asking why does one make more dust or are you asking what upgrade you should buy?

    If you wanna upgrade to S4 brakes then sure, if not then either your low dust caliper is sticky or you got air in the line

    The two front caliper bolts come off, its all about leverage and liberal use of PB blaster.

    I have a craftsman 750ft/lb impact, and a breaker bar with LOTS of extra DOM tubing to use as a cheater bar....not worried there, but my questions are:
    - is there a good way to check and see if i have a sticky caliper other than bleading the brakes and checking back?
    - are sticking calipers common on higher milage A4's
    - if i'm going to replace calipers up front, should i get some used S4 brakes or just get replacments calipers from what source?
    - anything else you want to add?

    I have plenty of tools, i just got done building a jeep based buggy with 1 ton axles, a chevy 6.0L V8 and a custom coilover suspsension in my garage so mechanical ability/tools is not an issue.
