I've been talking to a few guys in regards to ECU boost control which I will be adding to a few cars I've tuned (turbo E30, turbo VR6) on standalone.
Anyway, I've been trying to decide which solenoid to use for these cars and was leaning towards the N75 valves (readily available). When I suggested it, it was shot down instantly (along with any other OEM valve) because "they don't ever close 100%" which will cause lag and by replacing it with a valve like this:
usually results in an increase in spool of 500-700 rpm if the turbo is "laggy" enough (ie. a 500hp turbo on a 2L 4 cyl as an example).
So this got me thinking, with the bigger laggier setups being put on the 2.7's how many of you are really comfortable with PID/ME7 and would venture into something like this instead of the damned N75 that seems failure prone anyway. I know with EPL's new Fueling/MAF setup they're able to keep the PID system working properly even @ high boost levels.
The valve above is a direct knock off of the valves used by the "big boy" boost controllers like the AMS-1000, etc. So would it only be a matter of getting the PID right if you were to switch from the N75 to this style of valve?
