How many miles does your current suspension have on it? If you're like almost every other B5 on the road it's probably approaching 100,000 not to mention the fact that it could be anywhere from 9-14 years old now (if it's still the OEM stock suspension). Putting a more aggressive spring on an already old dampener (shock) will obviously result in an already underperforming dampener to be stressed even further most likely resulting in a quick demise. You should always pair springs with dampeners that work well together otherwise ride comfort and handling will actually suffer (in the case of more aggressive springs with stock dampeners your ride will become bouncy because the dampeners won't be able to dampen the oscillation of the springs until the dampeners eventually begin to leak because they are already old and you're now overworking them).

I'd highly suggest buying a shock and spring combo that will give you the ride height you desire, but also the handling and ride characteristics that you would like as well. I'd also recommend that you replace the front shock mounts as well while you're at it and potentially the bump stops if they are deteriorating (usually do to the shocks leaking oil onto them). If you don't want a huge drop over the OE Sport Suspension and want to keep the price reasonable I'd recommend Bilstein HD Shocks and Vogtland Springs (or if you want a little more drop H&R or Neuspeed Sport Springs). You could go with Bilstein Sport Shocks with either of those springs for a little more drop. I'd stay away from any of the Race Springs as the drop will be quite excessive (unless that's what you want). Another option to consider that is cost effective is the Vogtland Coil Overs which would be a bit more (not as expensive as most coil over kits, but better quality than the cheap coil over kits out there) and would give you the ability to adjust the ride height as well.

    I hope that helps.
