After over a month of trying to find myself an A4 one finally showed up at a decent enough price for me to jump on it!

1998(not sure if its 98 or 98.5) A4 1.8TQM. Sport package, 125k, black on grey fake leather. Its not perfect...well its kinda far from perfect, but hopefully I'll get all my problems sorted out. I have oil burning from near the turbo after the car sits at idle for more than a minute. I have a humming noise coming from one of my rear wheels, and I don't have batteries in my switchblade key.

What kind of batteries does this take? And will I need to reprogram the remote after I place the batteries in it? Does that require a vagcom?

They guy told me he always replaced the oil with synthetic, but I'm wondering if the oil is too thin and thats why its burning, its finding its way out near the turbo.

I have to find this leak, then I'm gonna chip it and finally I'll end off with putting in heated seats

I had a feeling it might be the valve cover gasket, until I saw smoke and nothing blatantly squirting out of the motor

and after the excitement stops completely overwhelming me, I remember the other stuff wrong with it. On the dash I have a brake light, ABS light and an Air Bag light. That and my wipers do a full revolution but don't return to the bottom...

chinese vagcom cable is on the way, software has been downloaded from ross-techs website so I hope everything works since I'm on a mac using parallels. Timing belt is getting put on the car now, mechanic showed me a bunch of stuff that has to get taken care of. Rear axle shaft seals, front cv boots, front brake lines, small exhaust manifold leak...my car might be missing a CEL because I've never seen it on, and when my car was up in the air I noticed the cat had been replaced by a test pipe and I don't see a sensor where I feel like there should be a sensor after the cat.
