So I have a buddy who was stationed in Japan in the air force. It got me thinking why not take advantage of this loss.. I read that some of the widebody kits come out of japan. What I was wondering is where would I send him to look for one? does anybody have any Idea where to obtain one in Japan. maybe fourms over there or some company that sell them. I figure if he bought it and shipped it to me it would be ALOT cheaper than going through a company stateside to get one. Maybe im dreaming. Either way speak up if you have any information on the topic.

    From my RX7 days...
JDM body kits + shipping is WAY more expensive than state side copies.

If he is in the AF, he is stationed in Okinawa-NOT Japan. There is a HUGE difference. He will not be able to source quality parts for your Audi there. What he can get you is a 5000$ price tag for Duraflex bodykits that are sold for 200$ here in the states as that's what most 'JDM' tuners really use due to price and availability. Only the really big tuners like TS, Chargespeed, and the like make their own kits-and most of them are one offs that Duraflex copies. Also, the likelyhood of having that size of an object shipped from an APO to the states and showing up in good condition is not great.

I was thinking if he were to get any body kit over there it would just be too expensive to ship something so bulky as opposed to just getting it locally here.

There are alot of cool Japanese tuners that do European cars.

If theres a local Japanese book store that carries magazines...see if you can find a copy of Af imp. In there you can find all kinds of JDM euro tuners.

I guess im refering to him being able to get an oem rs4 widebody kit not a knock off. I dont really see how it could be any cheaper to buy it state side since it would have to be shipped here no matter therefore buying it here reflects retarded high shipping costs as well as buying it there...

I would do things that he can carry back himself...
Like a RS4 steering wheel or maybe even the speedo with the immobilizer!
    How about the interior trim?

    hahahhaa... you're wrong.

    AF bases in Japan:

Misawa AB - 400 miles north of tokyo

    Kadena AB - Okinawa

    Yakota AB - western tokyo

on top of that there are many many smaller detachments known as GSU's all over all the islands of japan.

as far as getting parts its hard to get used stuff... japanese cars are, far and wide, destroyed after two years unless the owned dishes out lots of money to "restore it" which its more practical to just buy a new car. also you have to consider that they may not have had the B5 S4 in japan. i know they didn't in korea. and only saw 1 B5 audi in a year while there. best bet is to jump on google and look at the japanese websites using google translate.

but to be honest, after shipping and all you be better off just getting a reputable shop to do it local.

Yeah thats a good idea. I have a friend whose family owns a bunch of houses around europe (they are pretty wealthy, they control about 65% of the worlds port wine production) that could probably hook me up with oem RS4 parts. Im sure they would have no problems doing that for me. I guess the dreams of a nice wide s4 will have to wait...

Nope it won't. I have a friend who is a body work guru. He works at a pretty reputable shop doing work. I'm guessing the body work would cost me $50 in beer and whatever the cost of materials are.

LOL, is your friend a saint too?? If my best friend was a top notch body guy he would still charge me for a % of his time.

If you have a buddy who's a body work guru, have him build you a one-off widebody. It would probably be the cheapest of all the options (if he really is a guru and is indeed a good friend). Problems solved.

What's that much different? I know with the B7 it's wider fenders and rear quarters (and different bumpers and skirts), but aside from that, what's different?

nothin rele, but you would need to get the radius correct and to do that you need a template. aka a widebody fender or doors already.

Yes, but if you really want to save just have somebody run with it. I'm sure they could find dimensions somewhere (or just ask someone on here who already has one).

I'm just saying that if he has the buddy he says he does, this is probably the cheapest route of them all.
