    Steering wheel vibration

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Okay guys, this issue is bugging the sh*t out of me. I had my car aligned, balanced and the tires flipped and I'm still getting a shimmy at 50+mph. From everything that I've read and been told, balancing is most likely the culprit. Now, I had a shop look at everything to make sure no tie rod ends or anything were shot and they couldn't find anything.

Now, even though I've had the wheels balanced by 2 different shops, could getting the wheels Road Force balanced solve the issue? They've just been spin balanced the previous two times.

Any other ideas as to what could be causing the vibrations?

    UPDATED:

So after 3 shops. Tires flipped, balanced 3 times, front and rear alignment, it looks like my steering wheel vibration is gone. To no surprise of mine, it was a balancing issue. I guess some shops just don't know what the f*ck they're doing. Had it Road Force Balanced and all is good with the world. Never will I ever again get my wheels spin balanced. Road Force FTW!

Shot control arm bushings can cause a vibration as well, so you may want to look into that. I'm like you. My car's done the shaking thing (to variable degrees) through three sets of rims and tires (17, 18, & 19"), on coilovers, and on the stock suspension between around 55-65 MPH. I just gave up trying to run it down.

Been having the same issue, got all wheels balanced at the dealer (which they stated they where off balance) after I had gone to 2 different wheel shops to balance them. and like you guys, vib issue is still there...

Could the motor mounts possibly cause the issue as well?

I had a problem like this recently: Bad vibrations, took it to dealer, and they said they balanced it but didn't fix it.

Then I took it to our local Goodyear Tire shop, they used whatever machine they have, and had it perfect in less than an hour for all 4. Maybe try a plain ol' tire shop instead of the dealer?

Yea, I haven't gone to the dealer for this issue..The dealer is in another state, so I only go there when absolutely necessary or the big service intervals. I've had the wheels balanced twice under 'normal' spin balancing, I'm hoping Road Force may fix the issue?

57.1, I've been running the set-up since Feb. and had no problems till now....I mean, I suppose it could be tire wear?

    1. Are your brake rotors ok? If they're in bad shape they can cause a vibration too.
    2. I once had a 5" long nail in my tire and the vibration I got was horrible. And it was just because of that nail. Mine was around 65mph. Fixed the tire and everything went back to normal.
    3. One other possible cause: u hit one of your wheels pretty bad and bent it just enough to get a vibration. U can try putting your front tires in the back and see if it goes away from steering wheel. If it's a bent wheel and you put it in the back you should feel the vibration in the seat.

    hope this helps.

Must have driven under a ladder and hit a black cat. Glad you got it figured out.
