This forum has gotten me paranoid

I'm beginning to think my a4 is going to burst into flames any minute. All this talk about coil pack this, pcv that, and not to mention the cam follower. Man, that cam follower will get you everytime. So for preventative measure I'm entertaining the thought of changing all these problematic items out for peace of mind. Can anyone chime in with parts numbers and where to get this items? Thanks

    Coil pack
    Pcv
    Cam follower

And any other items that are dome for failure?

Giro the dealership with your vin. They can help you. Or try europaparts.com. They have a whole maintenance section with all those items. Don't be paranoid. No reason to be. All cars have there quirks. You just have to deal with it or buy something else. Which then you'll hear all about those quirks and freak out. Brutal cycle my man. Good luck.

Coil packs were recalled per the dealer, so call the dealer and they can look up whether or not the coil packs have been changed out. But if they do go bad, your car will do some weird ass things but wont hurt your car in the long run. So no reason to be worried about that.

PCV- Was NOT recalled but is known to go bad, very easy part to change, its located right under the engine cover and any1 that can change oil can fix a PCV problem. Many symptoms of PCV failure are rough idle and oil around filler cap/coil packs. If PCV goes bad, it will not hurt your car, just change it out and everything will be fine

Cam Follower- It is located between your fuel pump and cam, the spring in the pump can wear thru your follower and hit your cam causing a good amount of damage. It doesn't happen with everycar but does happen frequently and should be a part of preventative maintenance for any1 that doesn't have a warranty. Here is an oem follower that will work for our cars.

    http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4-...ower/ES252809/

Nothing really to freak out about, just change out your cam follower asap if your worried and no harm in upgrading your PCV and maybe even installing a catch can (what that does is catch all the fuel and oil vapors that would normal be rerouted into the system to prevent carbon buildup, carbon buildup is a completely diff problem and is shitty with our cars, a catch can is the only known preventative maintenance for that problem). Hope that clears up some questions you may have had.

The A4 B7 in my opinion is one of the best looking cars, I got one now hahaha, I got it a month ago and we started it up with the wrong foot... car had 55k when i got it, nothing wrong with it, looked fine, but the engine would kinda idle abit rough, not inastable, but a bit of shaking, specially with the AC on.

Then 3k milles on it, got a fresh oil change, and REVO stage 2... Car drove whole lot different with the extra boost, love it. Obviously that day went around and drove it like i stole it, not too crazy either, and after a week, I started to get big puddles of oil under my car, and figured out it was coming from the valve cover, so I figure a bad valve cover gasket.
Also did the oil cap test, and it had some hard suction, so figure that the PCV had gone bad, also when I boosted a bit, my engine would have oil everywhere and would smoke the oil out and nasty spills all over.

I ran away from my Honda, for having weak trannys, I had a 2008 civic Si, Boosted with a gt35 turbo kit pushing 424whp and 300tq... Those K20 engines on the Si can take a beat, but tranny will go out quick. Now that I have the A4 was expecting a bit of trouble free... Guess not, but hopefully I can get it all fixed soon, I have a BSH PCV fix on its way and a new valve cover gasket, hopefully that will do the trick and stop those nasty oil spills when I boost...

That is a nature of forums because people come here to solve problems. It's rare for anyone to bother to post that every is fine, thank you very much! So you get a disproportionate view of the car's issues, but at least you know what those issue are. That's better then something coming out of the blue.

This is a very good point, people with awesome cars dont come here to post how awesome their car is, they only come here to get things fixed. So you get a very jaded view of the quality of the car by just reading forums. But one thing to look at is to go to the other forums on this site like the c5 a6's, every other thread there is "help have code p1234" or "car wont start whats wrong" thread when u go here and there are some threads like that but there are just as many build threads, pic whoring threads and more positive threads to balance out that help threads. Take it from me, i had a c5 a6 2.7t and it was a great car but boy did that car have issues at 100k miles, tranny, saip, o2 sensors, oil leakage, etc it was overwhelming.

^^Both of you guys lay it out perfectly. The benefits yielded from enthusiast forums, especially this one, such as having a limitless knowledge-bank and means of project inspiration at one's disposal are invaluable IMO.

It's funny you started this thread because I was thinking the same thing. I was starting to miss my late model B5 which was near trouble free when I owned it.
Anyway I just came in to say my B7 avant has been flawless so far, but then again its a late build 2008 and I only have 19,000 miles on it.

Guess it really depends on how you treat your car. Many here with 30, 45, 60K miles have cam followers that look like they were in a blender. Then there's mine with 84K on it and didn't look bad at all. I'm also CPO'd for 100k also so I wasn't too worried about anything. Only reason I replaced the follower and upgraded the DV valve was due to my APR tune. Had I not my arms and knuckles would be in a lot better shape.

Whether you drive it hard or not, really shouldn't influence how quickly the cam follower wears out unless the driver is constantly driving it at 5000RPM. Mine at 58,000, it's okay, but had it replaced anyways.

I don't think this was stated but the valve cover does crack and this ISN'T a recall so unless you have warranty you will be paying out of pocket. They have a revised one, here is the part number 06D103469N

I am the same way, always paranoid now....but its rightfully so. My cam follower had a hole all the way through it which sucks because I am out of warranty. The info I get from this forum as a whole though for both modding and repairs is invaluable! I am an addict to it haha
