Need help.. previous owner had Sirius/RNSE, but now it won't accept the signal ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just signed up for a new Sirius deal, but sat in my car for over 20 minutes waiting to update the channels.. what gives?

The screen showed "updating channels", then "INITIALIZING", and then displayed a message to the likes of "This vehicle is equipped with standard satellite radio, contact Audi to activate service".

Previous owner had Sirius, which worked until he swapped accounts a few days after purchase. I pulled my SID off the unit itself, and confirmed the # by navigating the RNSE menu. I had it unsubscribed for a few months, but why would it not work now, or require something other than a new Sirius signal ?

Confused.. I just want my Pearl Jam channel.

So did your Sirius work in this car before? then you unsubscribed and resubscribed and now it doesn't work?

Sirius worked in this car before, the previous owner left it until it ran out or he cancelled it (a week or two later, but definitely worked), and now I subscribed with a new account.

While I was on the phone with a rep, she was sending the signal and I couldn't collect it. The RNSE screen showed that it was "updating station list", and then "INITIALIZING", and then displayed that message saying I needed to contact Audi for satellite service.

So did the Sirius rep see a free and clear ESN? cause if it is still attached to his account it is not going to work. The gentlemen that used to have the car needs to call in and give up the ESN from his account.

True, but if it was still connected to his account wouldn't it still receive a signal ?

The only thing that used to show up was "Call (blank) to subscribe to Sirius)."

The rep didn't mention anything about the ESN/SID not being free and clear.

per the DIY for satinstall there was some connector to remove under the passenger floorboard I think.. may have nothing to do with this, but worth looking into

Yes there is the connector on passenger footwell, but seeing how it worked before and no longer is sounds like it could be the module or antenna. Chances are the module. Find a friend that has sirius and swap it out real quick. These modules due go bad. Does your navigation work? If so then chances are it is the module.

yeah i got the sirius module from europa parts, paid for the service, and installed it only to have the dealer tell me it doesn't work because its the wrong model number, although dan at europa parts insisted it would work...
He said he;d help me out and figure it out but i'd have to make the trip to linden, nj... anyone else have a similar problem?

Yeah I read about the CAN BUS connector, but since it was already hooked up and working there's nothing doing there..

None of my friends have Audi's, so I can't swap. What makes the module go bad anyway ?

I doubt its a bad module I would call back in have them take it off your account and re-send the signal.

I'm gonna give them another ring on my way home. Here's the message I get:

"This vehicle is equipped for a simplified installation of satellite radio - using your existing radio. To order satellite radio service, please contact your Audi dealer"

If it worked before something has to be screwed up with signaling IMO.

What makes a module go bad? The soder on the circuit board, tranistor shorts out, another component overheats and quits. If it worked before and nothing has changed since it was working then I am led to believe somethign with antenna or module. That is if not one thing has change since it worked.

Good news - went out after work, and didn't even have to call. Signal must have been accepted afterall, and just needed some time ?

Either way, it worked like a charm and I now have all my channels. Thanks guys for your help!
