I'm having trouble with my windows..... They go up/down on their own when I start the car, the auto up/down works erratically, and the back windows don't work at all...except if they do it on their own. Any ideas? Regulator? The car is a 99 1.8t auto. Thank you!

Ha, I was just thinkking something about the door switches or the key fob. but i could not relate the situation to why it happened when he started it. What about if you turn it to the on position without starting the car?
    Best regards,
    Sean.

Yea, I think it does it when it's turned to the on position, I'll leave it in the on position for a few seconds till it does it again to make sure

It might be the clips on the glass itself. They are made of plastic and tend to fail. Its a cheap fix

Do all the windows go up/down together when it does it?

If so, my guess is the central locking module. It is located on the right side of the trunk, in the bottom. It is common for it to get wet and malfunction. The pump does have direct control of all the windows, but only as a group. It can open them all at once, but not individually.

Does this accurately describe your problem? please give details about the behavior.
