Obvious things to check are fuse, switch connections and functions. Perhaps somebody has a wiring diagram to share?

yep, sounds like a fuse prob. but maybe you got overzealous with the cleaning solution in that area?

Regarding the frequency of responses here, you'll find that for some inexplicable reason the TT forum has less traffic and fewer active responders that that of say, the A4 B7 platform (the other one where I lurk and glean useful info)--I'm not slamming this one, that just seems to be my observation. When I started over here this past May, I found it odd, as the B7 guys all seem quite mod-happy and there's a plethora of info available, whereas this one is much quieter. Sometimes it takes a while here for a post to gather steam. Let's change that! Mk 1 TT's FTW!!

I had this problem happen to me a few months ago. I literally was past E on my gas gauge and couldn't open the tank. Ended up parking the car for several hours, and when I went back to it after dinner everything worked again no problem. I had checked the fuses and even pulled the switches off to make sure everything was plugged in and no lines had been severed, but didn't find any issues. It's all part of owning a VW... I mean an Audi, haha.

When I said that, I was referring to the fact that the TT is practically 90% VW and 10% Audi. Aside from the Body and interior, it shares everything else with the MK4 GTI/Jetta. Coming from a MkIV GLI (hence the name), I've noticed uncanny similarities of issues between the two cars. The one thing that I'm happy to say was better in the Audi than in the Jetta, was the lack of rattles the TT makes. My Jetta would make so many noises/rattles while driving that I was ready to drive it off a cliff.

There is an emergency cable that opens your gas lid, also there is an emergency cable for the trunk too :)

Very good info, one of my best buds just had this happened and I didn't know how to help. Checked all of the fuses, even left the car open in the Garage with a dehumidifier, nada... Hopefully this works!!! Thanks!

To release the trunk - look on the center console, just rearward of the front seats and you will notice a separate rectangular section in the plastic, if you lift this out you will find a cable release for the trunk underneath. To open the fuel filler cap manually, look inside the car just behind the rear light on the same side as the fuel filler and you will notice a flap in the interior trim, which is to allow access to the rear lamp. Open this and then looking towards the top you should see a loop of orange plastic or yellow cant remember correctly - pull this towards the rear of the car to release the fuel filler

Do you not drive with your cargo cover in place? Mine squeaks and buzzes due the type of plastic they used. (there's a DIY to fix that out there, but I haven't gotten around to taking it apart yet...)

Where is this DIY? I honestly just want to remove my cargo cover but not sure how. But that thing squeaks and rattles a good amount.
