    +100k common issues?

So my gf is looking for a new car. Im thinking b6 a4 instead of something japanese for b/w 7 - 11grand.

My question: Aside from timing belt, water pump, and various small electrical issues, what type of maintanence can I expect for the +100k mileage on this car? (Obviously I will bring it to a mechanic to have inspected thoroughly and check documented repairs)

I am capable of doing most repairs on my own. I have a b7 a4 and an old e30 bmw that take up nearly all my time. I just want to see if there is anything out of the ordinary for car repairs that is common on the b6 that may cost a lot of cash and time. Head gasket? Transmission problems? Etc

We may also look at are the jetta tdi probably around 2005 with very high mileage, but it is diesel.

Are there problems w/ the turbos or sensors related to the turbo system?

Lots of threads documenting people's gripes about being nickle and dimed broke, or no issues worth reporting. Seems like it's one or the other.

Since it's for your g/f I'd put my vote on the TDI.

EDIT: Not to say I don't LOVE my A4, but it's a love/hate relationship. And, at times, expensive.

I love my B6 A4 since I have sorted out all the issues and done all the maintenance. With the power and suspensions mods i have done to it, its the best car i have ever owned. Its also a very classy looking car, both inside and out. That said, I'd never buy another one if something happened to mine! Such is the dilemma of the B6 A4

the 2.5 tdis have cam issues, they tend to wear at 100k to 140k, there are 4 and cost about £170 each to replace plus labour,
