Does the Canadian S4 MY2011 come with adaptive cornering lights?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was reading the B8 A4 forum post with people discussing the deletion of adaptive cornering lights: B8 A4 forum post

I'm waiting for my Canadian S4 2011 Premium, ADS, Nav and was wondering if they also deleted this feature on the S4? I really enjoy the adaptive cornering lights on my B7.

My B6 had the headlight washers and I hated it, went through windshield washer like crazy and burned fuses in winter like crazy. My B7 does not have this and has the cornering feature.

    Anyone confirm?
    TIA

How did it burn fuses... the washers pop up from pressure? and only when the headlights are on?

I would think that they froze and burned out trying to pop up

canadian has adaptive headlights and the washers.

edit. my car being 2010, the 2011s could be different, and the usa spec cars are different than the canadian spec in lots of areas. The lights were not an option, but may have indeed been a part of the changes (bulk) from entry to premium.

That's correct... Frozen in ice and the pump just burned the fuse. The problem is it then disabled the complete windshield washer system until the fuse was replaced. I went with a higher amp fuse and it happened less.

The B8 A4 discussion talks about this, but they are saying that adaptive inplies only up and down, not side to side.

The marketing material was not helpful.

Thanks! Hopefully, the MY2011 has it as well. I really like that feature.

No prob! I'm sure it will!

If I remember correctly you can also set how often the headlight washers come on. I believe I have it set to come on after the 10th spray of the windshield. It's in the MMI car setup menu. So you won't waste too much fluid.
I'll have to double check that. I did it last winter.

Just so there is no doubt: Canadian spec S4's most definitely DO have adaptive headlights... by that I mean that they will angle into a turn by a certain percentage. It is quite noticeable and the same as my previous e90 BMW 330i. I leave my headlights in the auto position and I will have to check to see if the adaptive feature works in the regular "on" position... in my previous BMW the adaptives were only active in the "auto" setting... weird but true. Haven't checked if this is the case on the S4.

According to the audi.ca website, both models in Canada have headlight washers for 2011 but only the Premium model has adaptive lights (not even an option on the base model). This of course could just be an error. You can see what is listed as standard or optional for each of the models in the Specifications section of the "S4 Sedan Features and Specifications" tab by picking the model in the pull-down menu. I'm a big fan of the adaptive lights, but could take or leave the washers. Maybe I'd feel differently if living in an area that used more salt on the roads.

I thought the Premium model had adaptive headlights as well. However, my dealer told me that the Canadian 2011's no longer had them standard and had to be a special order.

Where are the part #'s? I'd gladly check my car for you since I have adaptive headlights.

If you drive at night even at like 40 or 50km/hr and you turn you'll see your lights turn with you. It's really noticeable.

If you open the hood, you can see down behind the driver's side headlamp, there is an aluminum square behind the headlamp assembly, with a white sticker on it that has the part number listed like what Linknseal posted above - mine have 8K0 907 472. Hopefully this is the right number?

Premium Plus for 2011 comes with adaptive headlights... I know they cancelled the washers on the VW mk5 because of them freezing in the winters in the colder parts of the country... but can't say whats up for the s4 in that department...

Also the Adaptive headlights are an option on the standard model if you go into the special order programme... not a cheap option considering for almost the same difference from going to premium plus from standard you also are getting the leather/keyless entry and start/plus all the gadgets from the tech package...

So if I get this right, the "side to side" adaptive headlights are standard on the "3.0 TFSI Premium".

You are reffering to "Premium Plus" I've heard it mentioned before but I did'nt think it applied to the Canadian S4 option.

On the details page of the "Premium" it lists:
    • Headlight washers
    • Adaptive light system
    • Bi-xenon headlights with automatic self leveling
    • Front fog lights

    The "non-Premium" only has:
    • Headlight washers
    • Automatic, dynamic headlight-range adjustment
    • Bi-xenon headlights with automatic self leveling
    • Front fog lights

Correct, the "Automatic, dynamic healight-range adjustment" is the self leveling feature, which all US cars that have HID's are required to have to prevent blinding the hell out of traffic. The adaptive are the side to side.

Yes, it is on those white stickers on top of the headlights under the hood, they are kinda hidden under the front top frame of the lights.

Hope this helps. That's for a 2010 premium with adaptive headlight system.

I think I gave the wrong location, that is my # and not adaptive. Link said it's a white sticker like the one you saw, only on top of the headlamp assembly partially obscured by the crossmember on top of the lamp assembly. They should have different numbers between the right and left side also, which indicates which side is which, like how Link gave 2 different part #'s that were one digit off each other.

US packages and Canadian packages are different

US Premium Plus = Canadian Base
    US Prestige = Canadian Premium

The reason they name them different because the standard equipment are also different.

A lot of people are also mixing terms.

All S4 in Canada comes with Automatic, Dynamic Range adjusting headlights (up and down)
Only S4 Premium comes with Adaptive Light System (side to side as you turn)

All of these info are listed under Audi.ca for S4. Just look at exterior specs.

^ That was waht I told by dealer and one of the reasons I went with the Premium model...but I just simply did not feel the any difference of AFS on my headlights.

So any Canadian S4 Premium owner can help out to confirm the parts number of Adaptive headlight please?

lol, I was lucky I got mine within 2 weeks instead of waiting for 3~4 months. But the long wait is worth and you will not regret.
C63 is a no no in vancouver you know we have 200+ raining days here...I drove my friend's C63 AMG pkg and it was disaster at rain.

You must have adaptive lights. I have a 2010 Premium with AFS and the part numbers are 8K0 941 003 J (drivers side) and 004 J (passenger). The last letter must be a later revision?

Hope this helps. As mentioned by another poster it should be very obvious at night at slower speeds if you have adaptive lights without needing to check part numbers.

Thanks for all that info. I still have not been able to confirm or deny definatively if the MY 2011 Premium has it. Unfortunatly (for me) in order to check this at low speed, I actually need to have the car... lol

I was hoping a fellow MY 2011 Premium cound actually confirm that the option is actually being included. Thanks for taking the time.

I can see how that would make it a little difficult........

Sweet, thanks for posting up the part numbers.

I also find another physical way to confirm if you have AFS lighting or not:

For B8 adaptive headlight, the AFS black module/ballast is attached to the BOTTOM of the housings. You should be able to check this without take out the housing. (Pic below)

If you only have 2 silver ballasts on the inner side each headlight housing, then you have the regular Bi-Xenon ones.

    Hope this info help!!!

Ok, it is confirmed, 2010/2011 CDN S4 Premium has the AFS adaptive headlights.

    2010 CDN B8 S4 Premium Headlight driver side is 8K0 941 003 J and passenger side is 8K0 941 004 J
    2011 CDN B8 S4 Premium Headlight driver side is 8K0 941 003 AA and passenger side is 8K0 941 004 AA

I took out my headlight just double check and there is the black AFS ballast on the bottom of the housing as you see:

For what it's worth, you can tell you have adaptive lights with the "self-test" the lights do when they are turned on. They will go up and down and settle somewhere in the middle - to ensure the self levelling feature works, then they will point out and then in, and then settle somewhere in the middle (ie. Like a cross-eyed person) - to ensure that the adaptive feature works.

    Hey guys,
I'm in the process of looking into retrofitting a 2011 s4 with adaptive headlamps. This S4 has Bi xenons with range control with out curve lighting. So far, what is needed is (part# 8K0 941 003 AA, 8K0 941 004AA) Adaptive headlamp housings, (part# 8K0 941 329) adaptive headlamp control modules. J431 headlamp range control module located behind passenger glove box will be replaced with (part# 8H0 907 357C) J745 range control/cornering lamp control module. The 26pin connector for J431 module has to be replaced with (part# 7M3 972 726A) flat contact connector for J745 module. A few wires need to be changed, but nothing crazy. I think 6 wires need to be routed because the curent headlamp harness is different from the adaptive harness, but like i said its very easy.
I need your Help guys to find a few more part #s to make this work. I need a VIN # from a Canada vehical to get the rest of the part #s.

Could someone with a CDN 2011 S4 that has Adaptive cornering Bi Xenon headlamps post or pm me a VIN#.
I will do a write up with pics if I get this to work. This retrofit is for a 2011 S4 that already has bi xenon lamps but with out adaptive cornering. The retrofit is possible for 2009-2010 A4/S4 but requires different part #s from the ones listed above.
    Thanks for your Help guys!!!
