F.I. exhaust vs ??

I have FI exhaust and downpipes on my B7 avant, its loud and drones a little too much for my taste. Plus I have been rolled twice by the same officer for illegal exhaust (owned the car for 4 months now). Looking for some advice on something a little quieter? Maybe not attract so much attention from said officer. Not looking to go back to stock either.

is it a non-resonated exhaust? if so, how about adding resonators?

I just looked into the MD laws and your fucked my man... Adding resonators won't cut it, another brand won't help, if your car makes more noise than it did stock (every aftermarket system does) it is illegal. So long as that pig has it out for you and your not stock your screwed. I'd make peace with him and leave the exhaust.

Miltek resonated is the quietest stock exhaust. its more of a sporty exhaust. not aggressive by any means compared to the FI

probably need to go back to stock downpipes or piggies. that will definitely quiet it down...

get something with 2.25 piping. It will drone lot less, i.e. APR exhaust.

I didn't realize states did that. I was always under the impression that there were decibel limits and cops had to measure your noise to give you a ticket if you exceed them.

Saleen S7 is golden though, as its stock noise is like 108 dB's, loudest car stock I believe.

F.I. = Fast Intentions.

MD exhaust is law is arbitrary. They don't/can't measure decibel levels so I assumes its up the officer to determine if its louder than stock. The thing is they write you a service repair order (or citation) for you exhaust. If you get a service repair order you take it to an independent inspection station and they check for muffler and cats, if you have them you pass. If you get a citation you just pay it or go to court.

I don't even know if its the resonated version, how would I tell? I would add them if it makes a difference, FI is 3"??

I have the stock DP's and exhaust, I could put it back to stock but would prefer not to, just want something quieter.

Look for them between the mufflers & cross-over area...

Remove the catalyst from the pre-cats on the stock down-pipes (make them "piggies") and remove/sell the F-I dp's...

Well then you're fine then, no? Your exhaust has mufflers and possibly (you didnt specify) cats. If that's all that you need you should be good.

The same goes in VA too. Anything not stock they can write you a ticket for and I know a few of the area cops that will when pissed off write someone up for tinted tails, LED headlights (our body styles not the new cars), and different sized wheels. If the wheel size doesn't match the door sticker it is a violation!
