Looking for something to boost HP

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I'm on the search for my first mod to boost my horsepower. My price range is around $300-500. CAI? Various filters? Air box mod? Exhaust?

    2008 3.2

Please let me know what you guys have done, thanks!

FOr $300 almost nothing, but your best boost for the $ will come from an ecu remap. ~30-40 hp depending on the octane fuel you use

+1 for 600 bucks you can get an APR tune and it will be the best bang for the buck out of any mods.

Here's an example of the tune you can get. But it is a small increase for what's basically completely out of your price range. I'd look for ways to make it breathe better.

PES is the only chip tune for the 3.2, yields about a 15 hp gain.....

At that price range, an intake will make you think you have a faster car, because of the extra noise...

Frankly, save your money and enjoy the car the way it is. If you try to increase HP, no matter what you do, few months down the road, you will wonder why you wasted your money... Unless, you race your car.

    My .02...

Excellent point. My last car was a lifted 06 4runner so I haven't really delt with upgrades and the bang for the buck down the road.

Take the $300 and invest it. Then when it's more money buy an exhaust. Won't be a huge gain in power but the audio enjoyment is priceless.

I have the 3.2 and have had the same struggle of finding more HP. I did exhaust and CAI at the same time and have noticeably better power and addictive sounds but I think I am about out of options now. From my experience save up a few more hundred and put together a custom exhaust. Then add the intake later maybe for christmas or birthday. I used an awe mid muffler, 4" magna flow tips and made a cat back for just over $600 installed. You could get a magna flow mid muffler and tips for less than $200, stainless pipe for another $200 and have it put together for $100-$150 at a good shop, maybe less. Just my two cents from experience I just had and I could not imagine my setup sounding any better.

Thanks for the response, I am going to the muffler shop I've taken my past 3 cars to and see what we can come up with. Mid muffler and tips are not a bad price

Sounds like a plan and make sure and remove the rear mufflers and run the pipe from the mid to the tips. It will sound great.
