Converting to wheel studs...R12 v R13 ball seat nuts?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
With my Oettingers, I need a R12 ball seat nut, and the nuts for the stud kit I'm looking at are R13. Is the difference between the two noticeable, or will the R13 work fine? If its dangerous to run the R13 instead of the R12 (obviously the wheel safety isn't something I want to dick around with), I won't bother, but if it's something I can get away with then that would be awesome.

FWIW, the R12 ball seat nuts seem to be very hard to find...if there's a reliable source for them where they're not $5/each, please feel free to post that up.

    TIA

    I got my studs/nuts from Bildon http://bildon.com/catalog/results.cf...ds/Nuts&Nav=10

Never heard of a R13 nut before.

You can get an M12 ball seat nut from Bildon. I bought the M14 ball nut to use with my SDS wheels as they required a larger ball seat bolt originally.

Running an incorrect ball radius can be dangerous. You run the risk of an improper mating surface, and thus the potential of the nut coming loose. Putting a larger R13 nut where an R12 radius is called for can also damage the wheel seat.
Audi factory wheels use an R13 ball seat, Porsches are R14, and some oddballs use R12 like Oettinger and OZ. R12 nuts are very difficult to find. We do have one source that makes them, but they aren't cheap. I've never seen anyone else make them, let alone vendors even knowledgeable enough to know wtf you're even talking about.

Yay, I think you answered my question...that's the difference between the different ball seats (the actual radius)? Thanks for the info Mike

It's the radius of ball, or the diameter of the head. 24mm, 26mm or 28mm

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what radius AMG Monoblocks are? I had no idea there were different radii for ball seats!
