    Recaro ProRIDE in A4 Avant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all.

I just purchased a Recaro ProRIDE convertible car seat and have a question for any of you who have installed these in a B8 Avant.

I have found that even at its tightest, the upper tether is too long to fit snugly because the upper anchor is positioned so close to the top of the car seat when using it in "forward facing" mode. I can't tighten it snug enough to prevent the top of the car seat from shifting side to side a few inches in either direction if I push on it. I am using the rear middle seat and I have removed the center headrest because it was preventing the car seat from sitting flush against the seat back.

Has anyone solved this problem? Is this a safety issue? Customer service has taken a long time to get back to me and I don't want my child to ride in the seat until I get this figured out.

    Thanks!

    Andrew

Try the down anchor behind the seat in the trunk.

Tried that seat at first but did not like the way it fit, ended up going with Sunshine Kids RadianXTSL Convertible Car Seat and it fits rock solid (front or rear facing) in a B6 A4

How did you manage to fit it in rear facing? I have 80 and 60 lb versions, but I couldn't fit 60lb into A4 without making front seat totally unusable. And it doesn't fit into BMW X3 in rear facing at all. Also I find self blocking latch ties on sunshines to be a total crap compared to spring loaded britaxes. They always come loose from vibrations and pushing around by the kids. Britax grips and stays on forever. I can only recommend sunshine if you need a low profile seat.

I can snap a picture of it...yes the front seat is "moved up" but by no means unusable (i guess it would be if the passenger was 6')

I haven't had any issues with the seat loosen up at all...It been in there for a good 7 months and I had it rear face in a honda accord coupe before that.... (been using the seat for 14 months)

I have a 1 year old daughter (birthday was yesterday :P ) and we used the Chico Keyfit 30 rear-facing carseat until she hit 30"....then it was time to get a new seat. We went with the Recaro car seat. I can't remember the name, but it doubles as a carseat and booster seat so that we won't have to buy a third seat for her to use growing up. It's good from 20 - 120 lbs, and 27" and up. At $275 / seat, it's not cheap.....but it is badass. Here is the link: http://recarochildsafety.com/proddet...?prod=ZM23127B

    WantaA4,

Are you connecting the upper tether strap to the top anchor just behind the center headrest? Did you remove the headrest or keep it on? If you push on the top of the seat side to side, is there any movement?

Yes i did but it is not moving side to side... Lock the seat in at the bottom and pull as hard as you can while pushing down on the seat... Then clip that to achor and pull up on the top of the seat and pull tight on the strap. It should not move at all if only a tad. This is the one I have...

Cool. Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond. I currently have the convertible model, the ProRide, which is very similar but has a slightly different base and back since it can be used rear facing. I am going to swap it in for this model that you have instead since it seems to fit better and we are not using the rear facing mode anyway.

Did you remove the Audi headrest or leave it on?

    Thanks again.
