Quick question regarding power steering rack, strut vs non-strut

how do you figure out if you need a rack with the strut or without the strut? im going to have to climb under there anyways to do the magnet trick and find out if i need a koyo or ZF rack, where do i look to see if i need one with the strut or without it (where would the strut be located)?

2004, tiptronic, quattro if it matters. i need to get this damn rack replaced, tired of adding fluid to it every couple weeks.

oh and before i get flamed, yes i searched for a while, couldnt find an answer.

only early B5s had struts on the steering gear. All B6s recieve ZF racks now

ok, when i go to carsteering.com and put in the info for the rack i need, there are several options. i probably need the ZF rack, but they have listed a ZF rack with and without a strut as options.

So do the B6's have no strut period?

no strut, I suggest going to vwaudiparts or something like that and being absolutely sure of your part number. some sites have other options because they don't know any better...and the ZF rack superseds the koyo i believe

I got a 2002, but the part number that I used was 8E1422054AXKT

    site with correct part- http://www.europaparts.com/power-ste...2054ax-zf.html
