    In case your wondering...Price for a 2011 S5

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    **You're** <**-TYPO

Right now if you want the Audi S5 in Los Angeles,

Its $2000 Above Invoice @ $54,250 (Invoice is $52,250) for the Premium Plus Package (with no Options). Sales tax is 9.75% btw.

    MSRP is $55,250.

    This is ridiculous...

I'm not considering an S5 (because I know I'll complain about the payments and the MPG of the car) and with the current specs, its just not for me. I'm more of an A5 guy at the current price range. I won't consider an S5 in the future unless they come out with a 3.0T similar to the S4 and hopefully some better HP/Torque to compete with the M3.

I'm not hating on the S5 ( don't get me wrong) I love the car, but I can't justify paying that much for "sound". I have a mortgage so I can't splurge on an S5 right now. If I were to buy an S5, I would buy Exhaust Note's Daytona Grey S5...Only because I know its well maintained and I like every single Mod in his car.

Hopefully by December I can get the A5 Premium Plus w/Sports Package for Invoice. $40,355 (Current price I'm offered $40,955)

What's the price of the A5/S5 in other geographical areas across the U.S (wondering if it's as insane as LA)?

How do you expect a dealership to sell you a A5 for invoice? How are they suppose to make money? Especially since its the hottest car they offer.

Maybe you should write a letter to Audi and tell them to lower the price.

    Well...

@Gd10...Dealers can still make money if they sell it for invoice. The Dealer's Invoice is not the actual price they get the car for. There's a Manufacture Invoice...that no one or one rarely sees. The cost to make the car is significantly less than what you think it cost. I also have a broker, whom I purchased cars for in the past, and the price I'm referring is the current price he can work with for an A5 & S5. I have purchased cars at invoice and sometimes a couple of hundreds below, depending on the time of the year...Hopefully the numbers will be more favorable in December/January. I know we're only talking about 600-800 difference (1.5-2%)...but I would like to hope the savings can be used for 20" CH-Rs.

@iinvitkus...I'm not complaining about the price, I'm just saying it's not a whole lot of bang for my buck. By not getting a whole lot of bang for my buck, I would in return dislike the payments. I understand the market the S5 is trying to compete against, (w/ the ISF, C63 (Maybe), and M3). Like I mentioned in the post, I would like Audi to beef up the S5 more for that price.

@chrissurfr...You're probably right. I probably do need to make more money. I just made a 70% down on my home in Downtown Los Angeles, I need to look for something better that will help sustain this life style. Maybe I should sell my home and move back home with my parents and purchase a fully loaded S5.

If you have a Costco membership you can get a better discount of MSRP.

Go to Costco.com and click on the Car Buying program. You will be asked what car brand you want and you will be given a list of nearby Dealerships (and people in the dealerships) that cooperate with Costco.

Then, you go to the Dealer and deal with the people Costco.com gave you directly. You will need your Costco membership card.

It is pretty straight forward and worth the trouble...

I already have a gf (soon to be wife someday)...but if I was single, I would think a girl wouldn't know the difference between an A5 and S5 lol.

Very true. However, the invoice price you see is already calculated with a certain percentage of incentives a dealer and salesman get. When you go below or above that incentive, you can see how much more or how much less a dealer is making off of you. Often times at a dealership, you'll hear "I'll sell it to at invoice and I'm not even making money off the car or I'm only making $250 above invoice." What that percentage is, beats the heck out of me. If I knew I would use it with my negotiation skills.

is there a point to this thread?

most people will pay between what the dealer pays the manufacturer and what the manufacturer advertises as a price. i would bet you would wait a few months for a slot to build a s5 (not that you are interested in one) at your preferred dealer and would pay 1000 off in la.

Inventory is tight right now. Dealers are not giving cars away. And Audi operates on a different dealer reward system than most manufacturers for the "back end" and that's smaller than most. Secondly the S5 does not compete with the IS-F, C63, or M3. Last time I checked those are sedans and the M3 is pitted against the RS5.

i paid $60k plus sales tax in L.A. at the end of 2008, your price sounds decent considering inflation. i just came back from tokyo where the 2011 s5 costs around $100k and i believe the annual cost of driving a car is much higher (gas, insurance, etc).

i lived in downtown for the past 3 years. had i purchased the place i ended up renting, i would be in the hole for at least $50-75k (but probably more like $100k). not saying buying a car is a smart financial decision at all, but i'm happy with the outcome.

there's a reason everyone doesn't drive the best "bang for the buck" car, we want to stand out a little. if you don't like the s5 because it's too expensive and only sounds good, don't buy one. but you're preaching to the choir if you think you're bringing up a new argument.

Ya you oculdnt be further off by stating S5 competes with IS-F, M3. Also "I can't justify paying that much for just sound", another fail statement. You need to do some research because there is a bit more difference between a S5 and A5 than JUST sound. Maybe if you complain enough to Audi they will give you a really sweet SOUNDING S5!

Also try zag.com. I got my car through that website and got it for invoice inclusive of the Audi loyalty discount (about $1k).

    1. It's been well observed that the V6T S5 cabriolet does not get any significant better real world gas mileage than the V8 S5.

    2. Therefore I'd much rather have the V8 because at least it sounds good. And well..it's a V8. The V6T sounds like any other 6 cylinder. You're paying for a lot more than 'just the sound'. Some will argue that the V6T is a much better engine, I'm not one of them.

    3. What's the point complaining about the price if you're not even going to get the car? I don't think you should say that the price is ridiculous just because you can't justify paying for it. Supply and demand, clearly there is sufficient demand at that price. I was lucky enough to get 2K off MSRP because my car was on the lot for 90+days. If your dealer won't negotiate, go somewhere else.

    4. ..and why in the world do you think a dealer would sell you a brand new, high-demand car for under invoice when he can sell it to somebody else for a higher profit margin?

    5. Some of us want more than RWD rocket sedans. They're faster, but also more expensive.

    Valid points all around.

The cost of an S5 + Tax = $60K. Factoring insurance, gas, depreciation etc...its an expensive car to maintain. Although there's depreciation, like there is in every car, because of supply and demand, the resale value for the car is much better vs most luxury cars. The car is well within my budget, I can actually pay the car in full with cash, but factoring the cost of ownership was the deal breaker for me. This is why I turned back to the A5 for the most part.

I agree that the S5 doesn't compete directly with the ISF and C63. I brought up those arguments to point out their specs within the target price range and luxury sport car category. I was offered $54,683 for the ISF, 53,983 for the C63, and $57,655 for the M3 Coupe. In terms of HP and Torque, the S5 falls short to every car except to the M3 in torque.

I agree that not every driver looks to purchase a car searching for a lot of bang for their buck. However, there are "some" who do. We as consumers factor these things before making decisions. This is the same reason why "some" people choose to buy a MAC or a PC.

In the end, I'm not trying to persuade anyone from purchasing an S5. However, I think there are some people who are in the same boat as me, where I can afford the S5, but question myself "why not get an M3 instead if one was to go towards that price range." Fortunately and Unfortunately, I can't get over how sexy the A5/S5 body is. For the price jump from an A5 to S5, I was looking for a bigger jump in specs.

Although I'm most likely going to purchase an A5, I'm excited to see what the future will hold for the S5 model. With a lot of cars, the specs will continue to improve in the future and I can't wait to see what Audi has in store for us.
