    Teach me this trick!

I believe the Vehicle Speed Sensor (not engine speed sensor) is what communicates with the spedo. Not 100% on this though and I have no idea how your miles stopped. Almost seems like your issue is your cluster.

You could try resetting the connection of the cluster. There is a cluster removal DIY somewhere.

Sometimes moisture and vibrations can cause this connection to be iffy. I believe it's a big purple, don't try too hard or you'll break me, electrical connection.

My speedo stopped working a few weeks back and it was the ABS module( Bosch 5.7) after the drivers front wheel speed sensor had failed. Have both checked and I hope the drivers front wheel sensor will fix your problem.

You're not going to get much more help. The issue is your cluster, your VSS, some random fuse/relay or the ECU.

Start with diagnosing the cheapest option first, fuse/relay, and then go from there.

If you want to just spend money and pray. Buy a new VSS.

If you don't own one right now go buy a Bentley because it's the only way to track down electrical gremlins.

Was your ABS light lit up? If so, OP is your light lit up?

did the speedo stop working all of a sudden or did it die slowly?? On my C5 it started dying slowly/randomly and it was the speed sensor that crapped.

just stopped all together... after i did my trans replacement... im checking the speed sensor first... my cluster is fine everything works on it with the exception of the speedo and the odometer... talked to mike at ringer said that it can only be a couple things speed sensor cruise control module or a broke wire... abs has no play as the speed sensor is on the trans that controls the speedo.. and no my abs light isnt on...part number for the speed sensor is 012 409 191D

is easy to check just need a multimeter and time.

replacing will work if it is a faulty part.

PS: you mentioned that had your transmission serviced. maybe, just maybe they forgot to securely connect the sensor. It could be just hanging out some where. (?)

My speedo needle died along with Traction/ABS/Brake light on the cluster.

Car doesnt record the mileage along with MPG recordings. I drove like that almost entire trip from NY to H20.

While it happened I had vag-com connected, scanning codes revealed I lost signal with ABS Module (vagcom couldnt even connect ti it) - possible loose wiring/harness.
