    Stud Conversion Kit wanted

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After my local America's Tire shop f'd up my SSR's paint finish around the mounting holes because of pure idiocy and lack of care and patience, I need to get one of these ASAP (been wanting to anyway). Any of those with experiences please share. I searched and see several options for vendors (Purems, ECS, 034, etc) and would like to know where everyone bought theirs. Looking to run current wheel offset up front but add 8-10 mm in the rear. From what I am seeing I will need to get a longer setup for the rear obviously if I want to run spacers.

Thanks for any info and input

Raven Motorsports has a killer deal on stud kits right now. I picked one up and they shipped super fast and everything is great quality.

Saw that too. It is a great deal. Only thing I was not super thrilled with in the add was the gold nuts?

+1 for Raven. The kit is great quality and the studs are nice and long.

    The price is fantastic too!

Same here. I'm running the 2.5" stud kit from Ringer Racing, which can safely run up to 15mm spacers. Great product, price, and customer service. .

have u run into the nuts themselves starting to flake a bit? I'm think I might try to get Raven to sell me just the nuts from their kit.

Yup. I actually thought about doing the same. I was going to pick up a set of ball and conical seat nuts from Raven. However, after my buddy ordered his, the nuts looked exactly the same as the ones supplied by Mike, but without the cheap chrome coating. Decided there was really no point as I could just pick away at the coating when one starts to flake.

yeah my friend has the Ringer Racing set and the finish on the lugs are starting to flake, the Raven ones don't have a dipped finish, they aren't going to flake

I assume the ball seat were gold judging from the pictures? The gold can be covered up by stocker wheel caps anyway.

whats the benefit of switching to studs rather than it being s shit ton easier to properly seat a wheel and torque it down?

I would get studs just for the ease of swapping wheels alone. However i have also noticed less vibrations while running spacers and some different types of wheels. I feel like i have a much smoother ride now. My wheels have been re-drilled from 5x114.3 to 5x112 and when i had just lugs i felt some vibrations when braking from 80mph. I literally just installed studs and the vibration went away.

Thumbs up for the raven stud kit. Its so cheap that if you dont have studs, just do yourself a favor and get them.

With regard to that, is the need for hub centering rings essentially null and void now? I mean with say an 8mm (no hub centric neck), not enough hub left to really center the wheel. But now, the studs are doing most of the work in centering the wheel, no?

Yes and no. On one hand, it will be easier to align the wheels, but you still have centering rings to make sure everything is aligned just right.

You should always run hub rings whether you have studs or not. Putting on studs alone will not ensure no vibrations. Hubcentric spacers are not much of an issue with studs, but you definitely want the wheels to be hub centric so the wheels alone are not just mounted via the studs. Im not sure they make a 67.1 to 57.1 hub ring. You are left to buy 67 to 57.1 so with a stud kit and no hub rings i had a mild vibration. As soon as i got the hub ring, everything was perfect. you just need a good combination of everything.

Best scenario would be stud kit, with hub centric wheels or rings, and hubcentric spacers. the ride is really smooth that way. Taking any short cuts can result in a shitty driving experience. =)

you can get hub rings and spacers from Rotiform.

Good. Thanks for the clarification. My wheels required centering rings, but was just wondering how much effect they will have now, especially with the 8mm spacers, which incidentally are impossible to find with a centering neck that will work with the inside chamfer of my wheels center bore. Question answered.

You definitely want to run hubcentric rings if your wheels aren't hubcentric themselves. The bolts/studs are just supposed to hold the wheel to the hub. The hub is actually supposed to support the loads the wheel sees, not the studs/bolts.

both my audi's came with one of these in the tool kit. Makes alignment easy put it in and toss the wheel on bolt two then take this out. (just like having studs). I do wish I had studs thought. Will be a purchasing soon for some spacers.

Just wanted to give props for a nice link and option. Look to be a great option to get everything dialed in with regard to stance, ride comfort and proper load bearing .
