Anybody running big turbo on tiptronic?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Check my sig for current cars, we were going to sell the B5 to pay on the B7 & then sell the Mk4 to buy a B5 S4

Now we are thinking about just selling the Mk4 and putting the money in to the B5 and paying on the B7. Then, without a project car we can focus on our drag toys.

But whenever the k03 gives up I want to upgrade to an eliminator or at least a k04

anyboyd have any luck doing this on a tiptronic?

my friend has a b5 passat (non dbw) with a built bottom end, all the bolt ons and a k04, his tiptronic is trashed now

i think the gt28rs is your safest bet ive heard of alot of ko4 cars that blow there tip. if i remember correctly there is a stage 10 tiptronic rebuilt that will let you handle alot of torque and hp but your better off taking the parks off that car and selling and getting a 5 speed imo. or you could do the auto to manual swap that runs about 2k. personally bolt ons is all i would want with a tiptronic just for the simple reason of torque being too much for it.

I ran my PES T28 kit for 2 years+ without any issues on my tiptronic transmission. The Kit is actually now for sale (in classifieds).

I got a ride in a 30v with a pes blower and a full level 10 tranny, it shifted so hard all the time it was annoying.

if i do anything drastic i'd get an S4

but I'm not one to replace a shell'd K03 with another K03, if it breaks then its time to upgrade, i think the K04 would probably be the most practical choice

I ran a GTRS elim on my FWD tip for about 6 months with no ill effect. However I had upgraded mine with an IPT torque converter. TC on that thing was solid, 7 dyno pulls in fairly quick succession, 3 in third gear and 4 in fourth and no slip whatsoever. Had I done that on the stock TC it probably wouldn't have lasted the dyno session.

I ended up going with a 5 speed swap in the interest of long term durability. However the trans and TC worked fine when I pulled it out. The TC is still for sale if you're interested. It will fit your tip, plus it's had the stall speed upped in addition to having a more efficient stator design. Here's a video to give an idea of how it behaved http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A183rrnIV-A

That was with my old 2.5 in exhaust w cat. The 3 in straight though w test pipe dropped my spool to about 3800 RPM, plus I live at 3500 ft so you can do better than what I'm showing here in terms of spool.

Not much at all, and with yours being a FWD it'll take less to get it spooled than an AWD since you don't have the additional driveline losses. I use my car as a daily driver in a city of a million people and I had absolutely no problem with it. The other nice thing about it being a tip is that you don't loose boost between shifts. It also keeps a more constant load on your engine and rods under WOT conditions.

    this.

Im running a Garret T04e, with a tial 38mm wastegate, AEM wideband UEGO. FMIC. However I am only boosting 12 lbs max. I havent touched my internals yet. Im debating on upgrading rods/pistons/valves or snagging the 93 240sx thats a steal. I also have modified a little bit by using Royal Purple ATF, and a external transmission oil cooler. Monitor'd through vag com and noticed a 12 degree difference (cooler) on a 95 degree summer day. I havent had any hard shifts or problems yet. I did however do the Level 10 upgrade on a k04 and ran something around 24psi and ended up cracking my torque converter, valvebody and other things inside.

I did notice when in D mode and your WOT it does kind of sound like its struggling, however in tip mode the car becomes more alive, and responsive. hope that helps.

There's a local guy out here who posted his tiptronic gt35r build in the projects section. Spent a shit load of Time dealing with problems with the trans though and trying to get it rebuilt properly to handle the extra power.

I definitely wouldn't recommend running a GT35 on a 5HP-19, However, a GT2860 or even a GT2871r with an upgraded TC and valve body would probably be OK. Anything past that and it's getting into sketchyville.
