    VIDEO: Fuel pump dying??

The car just started to make that noise on friday, that I could notice. Had misfires later that day and both fuel trims were in the positive. The car seems to miss more when i first start it, but not enough to trip the CEL (that only happened on saturday)

Car has new CPs, plugs and fuel filter done 1K miles ago (also ran a shitload of techron thru the car couple weeks back).

The strange part is that the noise seems to be coming from the driver's side hump - is there another pump hiding in there somewhere?

My speakers are not good but I heard a metal rattle noise. Yes there is a transfer pump on the driver's side for the saddle bag type gas tank (like saddle bags for a motorcycle but bigger) to transfer fuel to the main fuel pump on the passenger side.

That was me fumbling with the keys, the clickey noise happens in the last 5-10 secs of the video.

    Fuel Filter

Have you replaced the fuel filter recently? My B6 S4 fuel pump was making horrible noises to the point where I was absolutely sure it was toast. But I replaced the fuel filter first just to see what would happen and now the pump and I couldn't be happier...

Yeah, it's 2 months old at most.

My fuel pump made a similar sound a few weeks before it died.

dirty fuel filter could kill the pump prematurely

    Halik,

Your fuel pump and filter are both less then 10K old?

That is the EXACT noise I have recently been hearing.(My 2004 S4 had 136,000 miles on the original filter) JDAutosports.com in Portland, Oregon replaced my fuel filter today and the priming noise from the fuel pump is GONE.

I've replaced the filter myself, though I did run copious amount of techron cleaner through the tank afterward. The noise started when the car was sitting on almost empty, so it's possible that it sucked in all the crap that techron losened up.

The sound seems to be coming from the pump or sender, will find out later tonight.

The pump is new as of 11/08 and 7K miles ago, according to audi maintenance records.
