    Dash rattle fix?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So, I have a rattle that is somewhere around the MMI. It sounds like it's right behind the air vents somewhere.
There is another around the glove box area. It's not the fuse box cover. I've checked that.

I'm going to have the dealer try and fix. The question is, should I?
I'm concerned that the dealer may actually make it worse. Another option may be a car stereo shop with the tools to disassemble the dash and basically do it myself with the help of a tech at the shop (and pay for his time).

    What do you guys think?

Definitely do it before the fit and finish side of things expires.

I had the same rattle. It was driving me crazy. Dealership tried to fix it but it started happening again a few days afterward. I had stuffed a tiny folded up piece of paper behind the plastic surrounding the MMI and this got rid of it for a week or so but it started again. A week or so after that. It just stopped.

    Good luck.

The rattles were driving me crazy, so I completely removed the silver MMI trim (both sides) and lined the back with felt. Now that area is silent, but now my rear passenger side C pillar is rattling!

Yea fit and finish is within the first 5K miles, they will address small issues like rattles and fitment of door handles, etc.

So if I take it back before that, they will fix it? but I feel like it'll likely comeback like Voltron's case.. I have rattle when I'm at lower rpm

Ok. I'm at 3700 miles. I've already had them 'fix' a rattle once. That one turned out to be the fuse box door on the passenger side, but they didn't address the additional rattles.

I think if you have them address some pre-5K miles and they come back, they should still be on the hook for fixing it if it's the same rattle area. It's as if it was never repaired in the first place.

You should at least try. If it comes back you won't be any worse than you are now. There's only upside in it for you.

    True, Thanks

do they have to actually hear it to fix it? cuz mine comes and goes... it'll be hard to purposely make the sound so my dealership can hear it

    that's the worst kind because
    1) no way you can fix if you can't hear it... so yes, they need to hear it
    and
    2) If they "fix" it, how do you know it's just not on the 'goes' part of "comes and goes"?

Just to clarify since I've brought my car in a few times for rattles. It is 12,000miles or 1 year (whatever comes first) when warranty will no longer cover rattles.

I've always thought this as well. I never heard of this 5k mile thing.
