Random start up noise. help.

I have a 2004 ultrasport, and when I go to turn my car on, there is this weird groaning noise. It happens when I give the car power, not totally turn the car on. it only lasts for a second or two and it doesn't always do it. I usually let it finish groaning, then fully turn the car on. If I don't, there is sometimes a soft hum coming from the car. Anyone have any idea what is causing it? Someone said maybe the fuel pump, but idk. Anything helps.

fuel pump.... pull up rear seat see if it is louder

Ya thats the fuel pump priming. Vws do it when you open the driver door. It's just something the car does to prepare itself to start. If it's really loud i would suggest changing your fuel filter and see if it helps.
