    slipping clutch!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I think my clutch just started to slip, I just bought my car 5k miles ago!!
I was at a stop light today and i decide to do brake boosting to see if it worked and i put it in first gear braked and accelerated, then i took off fast WOT and shifted into 2nd and the RPMs went up but no car going faster.... it happened a few times before i got home (I was close home so i couldn't see it happen more times) the clutch pedal got stiff every time it happened... It is clutch slipping right? and it was just a coincidence that i had braked while accelerating that it just happened on the same day?

(stage II and test pipe) <** idk if that matters but just some info...

how many miles does your car have? It deff sounds like your clutch is slipping but i dont know about the clutch pedal getting stiff, that seems odd to me. I What year is your car as well? I know the 06's have been known to have sudden clutch failures where the pressure plate just snaps and the clutch pedal just becomes stiff. And brake boosting is just horrible on your clutch, so im not surprised that its slipping.

Well 40k is pretty low to have a slipping clutch but who knows what the previous owner did to the car so I wouldn't be surprised if it is slipping.

Well the previous owner could have just been a bad driver, riding the clutch often, doesn't have to be chipped in order to hurt the clutch. Just keep an eye on it, the way your talking, looks like a clutch replacement is in the near future. If your stage II or higher, you might as well upgrade it a little or if you plan on going 3 or higher, I'd save up and do a nice stage 3 clutch upgrade. You probly have a good couple months if not a year on the clutch u have now as long as u dont beat on it and just treat it like a DD.

I have the same problem, and im also an 07 with 38k miles. My clutch started to slip last friday. Im gonna see if i can warranty it beucase ive had the car for 3500 miles (bought it CPO with still factory warranty intact) but idk how it will pan out. Thurs im taking it so ill let you know. If they call it wear and tear, AKA the prev owner beat the piss out of it then ill be looking into a clutchmasters stage 3. Its funny that you said you brake boosted it and it happened; i rarely rev my car past 4500 RPM and it still went out.

Brake boosting? You mean popping the clutch? For one, that is never good for any transmission, second, our AWD is amazing, and because you can't break the tires loose, something had to give, and the weakest link is the clutch. Keep driving like that, and you'll go through clutches like brake pads. My car is at 104k miles and the clutch is still going strong. I can make it slip if I try though. I drive it like I stole it, but only once the clutch is fully engaged and the car is already moving through first, then I can drive it as hard as I want with no damage.

brake boosting is when your going about 20 mph, slowly press on the brake and the gas pedal at the same time so your actually creating boost but slowing down at the same time, then let go of the brake and your already boosting and your shoot off. Its alot easier to do it on the highway but you get better response at lower speeds. Really not awesome for your car but hey its fun and once in a while it doesnt hurt. Its pretty tricky to do but once u get the hang of it its not too hard. You can do it with either 1 foot or 2 feet, i can usually just use my right foot and just turn it so i can do both pedals at once. My left foot is not coordinated enough to brake and i end up just fuckin it up with my left.

I have been driving a stick for 15 years and I have never learned of this technique. This is also my first MT with a turbo, though. Very interesting. Damn Yous! I was all in here like, "oh, you shouldn't do that", and now I've never tried it and I want to check it out myself.

It's definitely not very effective with our stock baby turbos, but
if you do it right it can help you build boost around turns and such.
I think break boosting is more of a BT thing if you want a jump from
    a roll.

But if done correctly, in my head, it can be a great addition to driving performance, for instance the heel-toe shift. Not a DD kinda thing, but def. a track kind of thing.

There is an option on the Nissan GTR that adds a button. They were talking about it on TopGear. It's basically a button that you push and it pre-spools your turbos for just this reason. That would be a sweet upgrade.

I've heard this problem could also be your cam follower that when you press the gas and your RPM's goes up but you don't accelerate, may want to check into that.

oyu can break boost any transmission car, doesn't matter, all its doing its its spooling the turbo up... nothing to do with which tans you have.

performing break boost in our cars is just stupid.. we have higher torque then hp. if u at 3k rpm u just go.. not even K04 u wil be nedded.. maybe gt30r + and thats you have to know how to do it or all you gonna be doing is wasting your brakes.

How accurate is this? I just ordered my cam follower two days ago so with a rpm increase show that it could also be that? I personally think its my clutch.

Not sure how accurate but I do have pretty good relationship with my dealer and I was asking one day about my cam follower and he gave me a description of what happens before one goes bad.....so not saying it is and not saying it isn't just was going to throw that out there. Also he was explaining that they were redesigned for the 08-newer models, not sure the truth in that as well.
