NEED OPINIONS.... new springs to replace sports suspension

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So for a while now I have wanted to drop my car to get that clean lowered look. I currently already have the sports suspension with stock 5 spoke rims.

I guess my question is this: Will I notice a big diffrence between a sports suspenion and new springs?

I know everyone will say save your money for coilovers but the truth is if im going to save my money like that id rather spend it on performance upgrades, and I really want to get that lowered look now.

Anyone have some options to look into for springs? If anyone has a before and after pic from their experience I would greatly appreciate it. (sports suspension to new springs)

That's what EVERYONE says at first, then a month or two down the road, you want it to be just a tad lower in the front, or the back, or all around. You won't be completely satisfied with shocks and springs, thats a guarantee. Even people who have them say, they are great, but I just wish this or that. Save yourself the trouble, buy a used set of coilovers for the same price as a new set of shocks and springs. I know Checho is selling a set for $800, buy his off of him. Not to mention in the winter time you will be glad to have the adjustable height.

wrong. Plus, you haven't even installed your springs, so how can you tell him they are the right ones to get?

You used a lot of absolutes in this post. I for one (as a person with springs) feel they are absolutely perfect for me; I don't want to lower it anymore, I don't want to raise it anymore, I believe my ride height is spot on and I honestly wouldn't change it if I could. Yes I know I probably could've got better performance from a set of coilovers, but this car is first and foremost a daily driver and with this understanding I feel that the spring shock has fulfilled everything I want out of it and is perfect for what it is used for. Maybe I just got lucky, but there are no regrets from me going with a spring/shock combo and saving a bit of coin.

    Picture for reference:

EDIT: To the OP. Yes, I noticed a significant difference going from sport suspension to the Koni FSD/ Eibach Pro combo.

Fair enough, your one of the few people who's opinion I respect on this site lol. And as a side note, in terms of performance, unless going with dampening adjustable coilovers in a race situation, there isn't much, if any, performance difference between coils and cup kits

^^^^ thank you for understanding where I am coming from. I know all the advantages of coilovers and have done my homework and still feel that springs are enough for me. I too use my car as a daily driver and do not feel the need to adjust ride hight. For anyone who wants to try and tell me to go coilover I appreciate where you are coming from but still will be looking to go with springs.

and A4A4A4 thanks for the info and the car looks great man, nice work.

The closest thing to factor sport suspension (but a tad lower) is Eibach/ Koni FSD setup.

I agree with A4A4A4...well said. I'm running Eibachs as well, but with Bilsteins, and have been 100% happy with them.
Having been through numerous coilover and spring/shock combinations with my previous cars (350Z, A3 S-Line, STI, and E36 M3), being able to set it and forget it with a good spring/shock combo is really nice, especially if it meets all of your needs.
If you're absolutely sure that you're suspension setup is going to change with mods, then the flexibility of coilovers is a no-brainer...but it doesn't sound like that's your situation.

Good response, and nice pic. Can't tell which is nicer - your ride or garage doors.

OP, I agree. Recently went to Koni FSD/Eibach Pro and love it all around - ride and look. (Went from stock, so can't speak to comparision to OEM sport.)

lol "man up"...really? ive got springs and rock a harder stance then most people with coils. To OP: springs are a set fix which im sure you already know. You need to know where you want to take the car in regards to ride height and stance of your car. If you will ultimately want to possibly track and get a stanced car, then I would stick it out and get coils. If youre just looking to have a normal DD with a clean look, then springs will work for you as well. Hell, you can always sell springs to someone else and shell out the rest for coils. hope this helps ya man!

Yeah this will definitely remain my DD so coils to me almost seem overkill. Id rather "Man up" with engine mods. Im just looking for a clean look and a set stance. Thanks everyone for the help.

If anyone has a before and after of sports suspension to new springs, I would still really like to see the difference. Thanks again.

I have Eibachs on the stock sport shocks. I have been running that setup for 2 years and I have no regrets. Rides nice and it wasn't too rough on the pocketbook.

I really don't think he would have a problem with this set up, sport springs drop about 3/4 of an inch, the eibach drops 1.2 inches. It would be like having sport springs and then adding the B5 caps.
