    Still running LIMP, WTF!!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Whats up guys? I have a 2003 Audi A4 tip Quattro. I keep having issues with Limp mode. My codes are P3087, P0172, and One for the evap not working but i cant find that one, I pulled it with an Ebay Vag-Com which I dont have access to right now. I have gone over the car several times with starter fluid, soapy water, and manual inspection. NOTHING. I did find a tear in the tip but I repaird it. I replaced the engine temp sensor (G62), bank one, sensor 2- O2 sensor, still nothing. Is there any where else i can look? Thanks in advance guys.

    Update!!!

Ok I replaced the N75 valve along with the Fuel Filter and I am not getting the codes anymore = )..... At the time I posted this I started having another issue which was the 2psi prob that has also been resolved. The wastegate itself was hanging up on the wall internally so I have a new hot side coming in Muchos Gracias Slappy ( You The MAN ) Im so excited my ride should be awsome after this. Thanks guys for the input and help.

After a boost leak test I found 3 leaks; 2 at the IM and 1 at the MAP sensor. No more Limp Mode after that!!!!!!

could it be the timing? I changed the belt around the time it started to have issues, but I did the turbo, head gasket and a couple other things too. Hmmm... I did make sure the marks where correct on the top and bottom. althought kdm told me the timing was advanced on the car when I knew it was on the points. (this was peior to the issue) but could it be the cam position going out?

Your car runs in limp all the time? Mine every once and a while will hit limp mode and then I just pull over and shut it off and its fine. I could not drive the car if it were in limp all the time. I drove halfway home from my apr stage 2+ update flash in limp before I knew you could just shut it off. Terrible driving down the highway for 2 hours running no boost. Good luck with your issue man.

Mine goes into limp and stays there until I reset the MIL. Then im back to regular boost for a while. I only get 10psi in limp with the F4h in it and only 5psi with the K03.

The code I pulled with Vag-Com was P1479, it said somthing about the EVAP not functioning. I did do a vac system simplification a year ago but this issue is pretty new, about a couple of months. Does anyone know where the EVAP is located or if that would throw it in limp?

I was just speaking to a tech about an issue brought about by modifications to the vacuum line system. According to Ross-Tech's Wiki, your code is related to the brake system not getting adequate vacuum for power assist.

87/ P1479/005241 - Brake Boost Vacuum System: Mechanical Failure

    Possible Causes
Hoses from/to Brake Boost Vacuum Pump faulty
    Brake Boost Vacuum Pump faulty
    Possible Solutions
Check Hoses from/to Brake Boost Vacuum Pump
    Check Brake Boost Vacuum Pump
    Perform Output Test
    Perform Short Trip

When I was talking to the tech he mentioned a different car owner who was getting this kind of error because he'd modified the vacuum lines. Seems like this is your problem as well.

Ok I checked the codes again last night and I got:

    P3087
    P0172

Now the car only runs 2 psi, Im really thinking the N75 is shot. Ill know for sure tommorrow when I replace it. I am also gonna replace the Fuel Filter see if that helps the Bank 1 Rich issue. let you guys know then.

I've got some vacuum leak somewhere that only happens sometimes. When it does my abs and traction light come on. I had limp mode tho. Fuel filter is always a good idea. I'm prolly doing my n75 soon as well to see how it makes it run as well as a new maf.

2psi? That's more than just a hinky N75. If it were isolated to that I'd still expect to see 7-8psi. That's the turbo's crack pressure. I wonder if your N249 could be pulling open the DV.

I dont have the N249 hooked up and the 2 psi I just noticed two days ago WTF. I was getting 10 psi in limp. The new N75 and FF were installed today but I didnt notice any diffrence. Im going to reset the ecu later see what happens but the 2psi has me worried. One other thing is that little container that hooks up to the brake booster vac line started buzzing on and off for a few seconds speratically. I think that might be why I get that P1479 code. That canister is the vacuum pump for the brake booster for when you have a vacuum leak somewhere in line with the brake booster. Its main purpose is to provide vacuum to the booster during boost. So if its just going off at idle then you have a leak somewhere. Usually when the booster isn't getting proper vacuum it'll tell you by setting off the abs and traction lights. mine does it like everyday but it could be any of a million things since it did it more often after I did the vacuum simplification. I put a bunch of the lines back in somewhat but I still get the light like everyday.

Damn, I was checking my gauge and it has 15in vac at idle and in drive it drops to like 20in vac. I dont get a abs light but I do get a traction light which the dealer told me a long time ago it was the steering angle sensor. Also I reset the engine light and im getting full boost again. lets see for how long. I did check the code before I erased it and it was P3087 this time ( Air Fuel Auxillary metering ). When I looked that up they say to replace the coolent temp sensor, I did but still get the fans running somtimes on cold start and all that. HAahahahaha this shit is non stop.

I'm getting it done at the dealer because its a long drawn out process that involves driving it in place on rollers to dump all the fluid out of the TC. Then they use vag com to see if tranny is up to a certain temp and the fluid and then it tells you when its full since theres not dipstick to go by. That and they're doing the filter and gasket. Its getting done for like $400... normally I think its like $800 or so. And I need to order 034 mounts because mine are shot but I'm gonna be super broke now for awhile because of this. Thats like mod money lol... on top of spending money on a new front o2 sensor this week.

They run 19 quarts of fluid through it at like 20 bucks a quart. the gasket and filter is usually like 100.

Ok so I think I fixed all the codes I was getting from My ride. Now I aint getting no boost at all so Im pretty sure its losing boost pressure somewhere. One new symptom is at idle it fumbles and almost cuts off, on start up I have to give it gas cause it'll cut off. Im not getting a cel light tho. I excited cause I know im almost there hahaa. I dont think its the wg actuator cause I did a few thing and actually watched it function smooth but still not ruleing it out. I will be trying to perform a pressure test tommorrow and will post my results. Thanks guys and if anyone has any idea or knowledge on this issue I would appreciate the help.
