    Anybody with highmileage A4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
It's been months visiting this forum particular the B6 A4 board. I come here with a question.

I'm asking since my car hit 90k miles. What was your thoughts and decisions when you reach a certain mileage?

    Thanks
    Mac

My B6 USP has 156K on her, I just sold it on eBay for $12,500. I just don't want to fool around with anymore and I know I'll have to rebuild the engine soon the way I drive it. Its starting the little leaks here and there, and is getting a little sluggish at times, and the rough idle sometimes in the morning. Wheel bearings are startin to grind a little, and pulling a 900LB waverunner at times doesn't help it either. Just make sure you do the timing belt/waterpump (did mine at 126k, I know I pushed it) change and coil packs, if you haven't already done so.

shit I bought mine with 80k on it. I know a guy that has well over 300k on his A4. You just need to take care of your car!

I am at 108k. Granted I have rebuilt the engine (which only has 15k on it) but there are certain things to take care of in a timely manner regardless. Timing belt should be done every 70k regardless of mods, valve cover seals and tensioner seals tend to go at weird intervals (causing small oil leaks around the engine) and should be replaced as needed. Water pump should always be done with the timing belt, and all other routine maintenance should be followed as indicated by the owners manual. Little things like full synthetic oil changes every 5k should keep the engine running like a top. Things like wheel bearings, window regulators, etc may go...but it is hard to know at what interval. One other thing to look at is shocks, which with age will start to lose some performance. Otherwise, you should be in good shape!

One last tip...knowing as much about the previous owner(s) and their habits as far as maintenance goes is important if possible (i.e. service logs) just so you know how the car was maintained prior to you owning it. A well maintained car will run a VERY long time...whereas cars that were not as meticulously maintained may have more issues.

150k + on mine and still going strong. Oil changes every 3k with a high quality synthetic, timing belt services at recommended intervals, and just being really anal retentive about EVERYTHING has helped this car stay on the road. A few bumps along the way (failed fuel pump, failed coil packs, coil pack and fuel injector harnesses, etc) but I hope to put at least another 150k on this car.

(engine rebuild coming soon, and some front-end parts that are starting to get sloppy)

I have 122k, but I am the 5th or 6th owner, and the previous owners were extremely cruel to that car. For the work I put into it, I could have bought a B5 as a daily driver and garaged this one for weekends. But now she runs and drives perfectly; I couldn't be happier. (Now that I said that, something will break.)

My dad bought a B6 3.0 with 118k a month or two earlier than I got mine and his has been mostly problem free.

You just have to keep a schedule of maintenance and don't let things go longer than they should.

139.k, runs well. Timming belt kit was done at 125k (last owner didn't think its needed that soon!) If you do basic things, it will run well.

90K is nothing, you're just breaking it in after the first timing belt swap lol. You did do that already, right?

187k on my '04 A4. Just moved up to a big turbo this Spring. Compression test on engine shows it's doing quite well: 180, 180, 190, 200. Had to fix some vacuum leaks, but everything is strong and solid. Simply stay on top of maintenance. I'll do the oil change every 5k miles (synthetic 5w-40 on approved Audi/VW list and large oil filter). I'll then follow Audi's schedule program for checking/inspecting/replacing everything else which is on a 10k mile interval. The timing belt/water pump/tensioner/accessory belt gets replaced every 60k-70k miles.

I've got 120k. Primarily stock, except for a FMIC and K&N filter, Podi gauge, oil change every 3k mobil1 full synthetic. Did some stuff for handling; Bilstein shocks and springs. larger sway bar. Different Snub mounts. 12 pc control arm kit.
New clutch, slave, and flywheel resurface at 118k. Needed vacuum hoses replaced and valves right at about 116k (could've done it sooner, but oh well)
