Will a breather filter added onto the valve cover cause any problems?

no, just make sure its angled upward with a straight up facing or right angle {elbow} fitting. so when or if oil in your valve cover doesnt leak or spray enough to soak into the filter. youre good to go. if the engine has a recirculatory line it really isnt necessary. unless oil is making its way into the tract.

The correct answer to this is no, you shouldn't do that. The only way for fresh air to enter the PCV system is through the small metered intake hole in the top of the PRV (pancake valve). By putting a filter on the VC you are allowing way too much flow through the PCV valve. More than the factory setup would usually allow. The spring in the breather valve, the spring in the PRV, and the fuel maps in the ECU are all tuned for the factory amount of PCV flow into the intake.

By increasing the flow that much you could even have problems with high idle because too much air is bypassing the throttle plate. Also, with such a large opening the crankcase will no longer be under much vacuum. Air will just be flowing through it at almost atmospheric pressure.

I suggest you either plumb it up like an AWM or don't do it. Don't get me wrong, I like the extra breather on the valve cover. I think it is a good thing to help out with top end sludge formation, etc. Just hook it up right. That said, if you are going to a big turbo and are venting to atmosphere anyway, absolutely. You want as much breathing as you can get.
