Power Steering hose ruptured

Was heading out to go to the movies last night when all the sudden I lost power steering and saw smoke pouring out from the hood.


Pressure hose has a huge gash in it. Has anyone seen something like this before? Is it because the hose has 182k miles on it, Or is there another problem? I installed a new rack 3k miles ago and everything has been fine. First time this car has broke down on me in 2 years ... thankfully in the driveway.

I actually have a spare one of those lines that came with the new (used) rack I'm in the middle of installing. Let me know if you want it.
